Famous Assamese singer, Zubeen Garg's wife, Garima Sakia Garg, broke down seeing her husband's mortal remains.
Famous Assamese singer, Zubeen Garg's mortal remains arrived on September 21, 2025. The Assam government has declared a three-day state mourning, which means no official entertainment, ceremonial programs or public celebrations will take place. Now, we stumbled upon glimpses of Zubeen's wife, Garima Saikia Garg, who broke down seeing the mortal remains of her husband.
Zubeen Garg's wife received the singer's body at the airport, and she broke down seeing him in a casket. His wife was dressed up in a traditional saree, and she was heartbroken as she never imagined her life would come to a standstill after her husband's untimely death in a foreign land. The singer was famously known as the 'King of humming'.
Zubeen Garg once, during a concert, revealed that when he dies, his fans should sing, 'Mayabini Ratir Bukut' at his funeral. He wanted the song to be sung across Assam after his passing. He said, "This song is my fantasy. When I die, the entire Assam has to sing this song." After his death, fans gathered outside his home and fulfilled their favourite singer's final request.
After the news broke that Zubeen Garg died during a fatal scuba diving mishap, his wife, Garima Saikia, revealed the truth. In an interview with The Times of India, Garima shared that her husband was with seven or eight people on a yacht in Singapore. She mentioned that his friends and drummers, Shekhar and Sidhartha, were also with him. She added that they had their safety jackets on. However, her husband didn't die of a fall during scuba diving, but rather he suffered a seizure attack when he went back swimming. She said:
"They swam together and returned to the shore on the yacht. All of them were wearing life jackets. But Zubeen went to swim again and suffered a seizure attack. He suffered seizure attacks on several occasions earlier but escaped death. Other team members rescued him after seeing something unusual. He was kept in the ICU at Singapore General Hospital for about two hours."
Zubeen Garg's event manager, Shyamkanu Mahanta and his team issued their first statement after the singer's death. Confirming the heartbreaking news, Zubeen revealed that the iconic singer passed away at Singapore General Hospital around 2:30 p.m. Zubeen was scheduled to perform at the festival on September 20, 2025. The statement can be read as:
"With profound grief, we share the heartbreaking news that our beloved icon, Zubeen Garg, passed away today at Singapore General Hospital around 2:30 PM. Zubeen had arrived in Singapore just the day before yesterday. He was scheduled to be with us at the festival tomorrow, meeting and interacting with people. Earlier today, our entire team was engaged in a business meeting with senior Singaporean industrialists and policymakers at the Shangri-La Hotel to facilitate investments in Northeast India."
We pray for strength for Zubeen Garg's family in these tough times!
