Anushka Sharma Talks About Working Mothers' Struggles In A Male-Dominated World: 'It's A Rat Race'

India's ace cricketer, Virat Kohli and his gorgeous actress-wife, Anushka Sharma have been 'couple goals' since 2014. Their PDAs have only become cuter since they had tied the knot in a secret wedding ceremony in Italy. And honestly, fans cannot get over Virushka's fairytale-like wedding pictures to date. From Anushka's bridal entry to her Sabyasachi wedding lehenga, there was nothing about the wedding, which was not perfect. Moreover, the duo had embraced parenthood for the first time with the arrival of their little munchkin, Vamika Sharma Kohli on January 11, 2021.

Vamika has brought an immense amount of love and happiness into the life of her doting parents, Virat and Anushka. The actress had even taken a sabbatical from acting since January 2021 until she had decided to make a comeback with Chakda Xpress, a biographical drama based on the illustrious career of former Indian cricket team captain, Jhulan Goswami. Now, Anushka has opened up about how people do not understand the emotions of a working mother.

In a recent interview with Harpers Bazaar, Anushka Sharma talked about her struggles to strike a perfect work-life balance. Calling the world a 'male oriented' place, Anushka shared how people around her do not understand the obstacles of working mothers. Anushka further said that after embracing motherhood, she developed more respect and a feeling of sisterhood toward other moms. In her words:

"Striking a work-life balance is certainly harder for women. I don't think people understand the life and emotions of a working mother, because the world is so male-dominated. Heck, I'm a woman; even I didn't understand it till I became a mother. Today, I have so much more respect and love for women, and such a strong sense of sisterhood. I've always spoken up for women, but to feel love and compassion for the cause makes it so much more powerful."

Further in the conversation, Anushka wished that women received more support and empathy in the workplace. She also talked about the importance of taking time and nurturing a child in a world where people are more into the rat race. Anushka can be quoted as saying:

"I wish women received more support in their workplaces. While I know many men who are kind and empathetic towards women, the work culture itself can be so tough. I wish we collectively paid more attention to how nurturing a child is important for the world at large. And that is, probably, the complete opposite of our 'go, go, go' culture."

In the same conversation, Anushka had revealed that she had doubts about her physical strength when she had started prepping for the film, Chakda Xpress. As Anushka was filming for the first time after having a baby, she was pretty nervous on the sets. Anushka had said:

"I was a part of the inception of Chakda' Xpress. I was supposed to have worked on it earlier, but the film got postponed because of the pandemic and then I got pregnant. When I finally began working on it, I was really nervous because I had just had a baby so I wasn't as strong as before. And I hadn't trained for 18 months, so I wasn't in the best physical condition—earlier, I would have really pushed myself to do different exercises in the gym."
