Popular singing reality show, Indian Idol 12 is again in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. The show has already received many backlashes throughout the season, and this brand new outrage is no surprise. But this time, the show's makers are accused of disrespecting a legend like Kishore Kumar, the anger is so enormous, that people are signing petitions and sharing posts online to terminate the show after this season.

On May 9, 2021, Indian Idol 12 did a special episode to honour the legacy of iconic singer, Kishore Kumar with ‘100 Songs of Kishore Kumar'. From contestants to judges, everyone sang some of the most famous songs of the legendary singer. Kishore Kumar's son, Amit Kumar was also present to graced the episode. Still, within some minutes, the show started receiving a lot of outrage on social media for not having good singers on the show and disrespecting the legacy of a legend like Kishore Da.
In an interview with the ETimes TV, Kishore Kumar's son, Amit Kumar, revealed that he was asked to praise every contestant, irrespective of their performance and capabilities. Amit also said that no one in this world could sing like his father. He said, "I did what I was told. I was told sabko praise karna hai. I was told jo jaisa bhi gaaye usko uplift karna hai because it's a tribute to Kishore da. I thought it will be a homage to my father. But once there, I just followed what I was asked to do. I had told them to give me portions of the script in advance, but nothing of that sort happened." When Amit Kumar was asked did he like the show, he clearly said, "I didn't enjoy the episode at all."
Amit Kumar also stated that the youngsters of today's generation don't know enough about his father's legacy, and all they know is Roop Tera Mastana from the film, Aradhna. He added, "The truth is that nobody can sing like Kishore Kumar, he was a mountain of a personality and man of many faces. The youngsters of today have no idea about him, they just know 'Roop Tera Mastana' from 'Aradhna'." The doting son explained that the way the show's makers had decided to pay homage to his father and a legend like Kishore Kumar was indeed a bad choice, and he hopes this would not happen again. He said, "Next time if they're paying a homage/tribute to a legend like Kishore Kumar, they shouldn't do it this way."

While on one side, Amit Kumar has clearly stated that he wasn't at all happy with the special episode of Indian Idol 12. On the other side, netizens also showed their immense discomfort, rage, and disappointment after watching the special episode dedicated to one of the greats of Indian cinema, Kishore Kumar. From lashing out at the makers for promoting talent-less singers to criticising judges for playing emotional cards all the time, the show is receivig heavy rage from the viewers. Some users also scrutinised show's judges, Himesh Reshammiya and Neha Kakkar for singing Kishore's songs, as they weren't good, and it was painful for Kishore Kumar's fans to hear them.
