The last star of the first golden generation of comedians of the Indian cinema, Jagdeep Jaaferi had bid farewell to all of us on July 8, 2020, in Mumbai and was laid down for the final peaceful sleep at Mazgaon cemetery on the afternoon of July 9, 2020. The exceptional actor and comedian, who had played tons of memorable characters in his six decades-long Bollywood career in which he had acted in almost 400 films, was simply a gem of the Indian cinema. Now, his son and popular Bollywood actor, Jaaved Jaaferi has shared a heartfelt note for all the people, who have come forward to support their family during the tragic time of his father’s demise. Scroll down to see the long note!
On July 13, 2020, Jaaved Jaaferi took to his Twitter handle and wrote a few words about his late and legendary actor, Jagdeep Jaaferi along with an emotional note. In his tweet, the actor has thanked all the people, who came forward and extended their support to the family. It can be read as “My heartfelt thanks to all those who shared the pain of my father’s departure with so much love, (cont)." The actor has continued thanking people in his long note, and it can be read as “Itna pyaar..itni izzat..itni duaaein..?????? Yahi toh hai 70 saalon ki asli kamai. Going further in his note, Jaaved Jaaferi talked about the life lessons that his father had taught him, which had made him the kind of person he is today. His letter continued, “After losing his father at seven and losing everything else that existed of a good life after the partition, it was a head to head combat with poverty and survival on the footpaths of Mumbai. An 8 yr old with his mother thrown headfirst into the ocean. It was either sink or swim. So he swam. From working in small scale tin factories to making kites, selling soap, to walking behind a Maalishwala holding his canister of oil and shouting ‘Maalish, tel maalish’. At 10 yrs of age what destiny choose for him, as the light at the end of the tunnel, was cinema.”
Highlighting the stepping stone of his father, Jagdeep Jaaferi's career in Indian cinema, the doting son wrote, “The journey began with #BRChopra sahab’s first film ‘Afsana’ (shot in ‘49 but released in 51)and as the adage goes ‘a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step’, there was no looking back. His father figures and guides were the likes of Bimal Roy, Guru Dutt, Mehboob Khan, K Asif. From the most natural child actor I have witnessed in Hindi cinema to a sensitive leading man, to the craziest improv comedian with impeccable timing in the latter years, he never failed to entertain and amaze.”
The actor concluded his long note talking about the cruel reality of life and wrote, “Hindustaan ke logon ko do cheezon se bohot lagaao hai, ek hai Ma, doosra, Cinema. Mere father ko bhi in donon se behad lagaao tha. I would like to end with his favourite couplet which his Maa quoted under dire straits and which he constantly used as a reminder - “Woh manzil kya, jo aasaani se teh ho; Woh raahi kya, jo thak kar baith jaaye” Magar afsos zindagi kabhi kabhi thak kar baithne per majboor kar deti hai. Hausla bulund hota hai par jism saath nahi deta. To the man I called ‘papa’ and who the world knew by his various avatars, SALAAM !!!
