When a girl marries, she ties the knot not just with the man but with his family. We have often seen how the newlyweds are taunted to call their husband’s mother, maa, or mummy immediately after the wedding. However, the bond should come naturally. Kajol, who is married to Ajay Devgn and has two kids, Nysa Devgan and Yug Devgan with him, recalled how her mother-in-law, Veena Devgan reacted when her friends asked her why her daughter-in-law doesn’t call her mom.
Kajol shares a beautiful bond with her mother-in-law, Veena Devgan. On February 19, 2021, Kajol had wished her mother-in-law, Veena, on her birthday with an emotional note on her IG handle. Sharing a selfie with her mother-in-law, Kajol had called her saasu maa her 'partner in crime' and had prayed for her good health and happiness. She had written:
"Happy birthday to my partner in crime and crab for the last 22 years. Aapki hansi kabhi kam na ho #motherbylaw #mominspirit."

In a conversation with Twinkle Khanna for Tweak India, Kajol recalled how her mother-in-law, Veena Devgan would reply when her friends used to question her for the actress not calling her mummy or maa. Sharing that she respects her mother-in-law for her ‘very proud’ yet savage reply, Kajol said:
“Fortunately for me, my mother-in-law has given me the time and space. I know for a fact that we used to sit and her friends would come over. Her friends would be like, ‘Arre, woh tumhe mummy nahi bulati hai? Maa nahi bulati hai?’ And my mother-in-law would turn around very proudly and say that, ‘Woh jab maa bolegi na, dil se niklega, dimaag se nahi niklega’.”
For the uninitiated, once Kajol’s mom-in-law, Veena was rushed to the hospital after she had a relapse, post chest congestion and at that time, Kajol had taken the charge of looking after her. While she was there with her during the day, her hubby, Ajay was for night patrolling. After Veena’s discharge, Kajol’s happiness had known no bounds as she had thanked the hospital for their services on Twitter.

Once in an interview with media in 2017, Kajol had talked about her in-laws and the kind of relationship she shares with them. She had also talked about the changes she had felt when she had become a member of the Devgan family after her marriage with Ajay Devgn. She had said:
"I am married into a family which is different from the one I grew up in. Here, women are more typically uni-dimensional, like in most homes. My mother-in-law, Ma, is simple and straightforward… Glorious though the last two years (post motherhood) have been, I would not have survived them without her. I sometimes feel I am married to Ma… Ahay is out most of the time. Honestly, even now I wouldn't have come back to work if not for a good maid and of course, my mother-in-law."
For the unversed, Kajol and Ajay Devgn had tied the knot on February 24, 1999.
