Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor were always vocal about themselves being ‘more than just friends’ in interviews and chat sessions. While we do know that the duo has parted ways and are happily making the most of their respective lives, things weren’t the same always. Reports then had it that Kareena and Shahid had largely impacted each other’s lives. Bebo had taken to spirituality due to then-beau, Shahid and had also changed her eating habits by becoming a vegetarian. Shahid too, was reportedly seen in a more confident avatar around his then rumoured ladylove, Kareena.
However, as per a Miss Malini report, it was Kareena Kapoor’s mother and sister, Babita and Karisma Kapoor, who were not very fond of Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor’s camaraderie. Although Shahid belonged to a well-known filmy lineage, they had felt that their families do not match and go at par with each other. The report also had it that Kareena’s fondness towards Shahid was turning into an obsession as Bebo was then asking all of her directors to cast them together in films.
It was after Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor had worked on Fida, did bumps start to appear in her and Shahid Kapoor’s relationship and reasons such as distance, success and proximity (as cited to their co-stars), were some of the major reasons behind their separation. Soon after, Kareena started shooting for Tashan with her now hubby, Saif Ali Khan and Shahid started filming Kismat Konnection with Vidya Balan, thus adding sparks to their individual linkup rumours with their co-stars. As the shoots neared its end, Kareena and Shahid’s relationship died a slow death. Kareena’s mom and sister, Babita and Karisma too, had reportedly asked the star to focus on her career as they failed to see Shahid as a rising star. And the rest, as we say, is all history! In an interview with Rajeev Masand, Shahid Kapoor had spoken about his breakup with Kareena Kapoor. He had shared. "Yes, it was a very trying period for me for almost a month, and it was very clearly a question for me of choosing between my personal feelings and my profession. I had two choices, one was to come back and not talk at all, not go out in the press and not interact with the media- which would save me the pain of answering questions which I am uncomfortable about, or go out there and promote my film which was releasing in three weeks."
Shahid Kapoor had further added, "I chose to do the latter because I think it was important for me as a hero to be there for my film and I had great faith in the film. So yes it was difficult and uncomfortable but I accepted that as a part of the way things work out here." He had retorted, "I think the most difficult was to not talk about because it was so public and it was really important for me as a person to draw a line as they are areas that are very personal and it's not classy to talk about them in print."
Even Kareena Kapoor (now Kapoor-Khan) had also talked about her breakup with Shahid Kapoor. In a throwback interview with Cosmopolitan, she had shared the most important thing she ever did for Shahid Kapoor. Bebo had shared, “Nothing. Our relationship is not like that, it's too early. It's too soon for the romance part to start. At the rate we're both shooting, there is no time to look deeply into each other's eyes and be lovestruck. We are more like friends (giggles) okay, a little more than friends...”
When probed about how they used to spend time with each other, Kareena Kapoor had then stated, “We do the stuff any other young couple does, eating out, watching movies...I really enjoy watching movies. When we get a chance, we go to Fame Ad Labs to see films, we sneak in when it's dark, after the movie has started. It's lovely. It's so relaxing. That's what I enjoy most about being with Shahid. I get to be normal and do normal things.” Revealing her irrational fear, Bebo shared, “Speed and heights. I never sat on Shahid's bike and now he's sold it. The current update about their lives, in a nutshell, is Kareena Kapoor is now a Khan post she got married to her ‘prince charming’, Saif Ali Khan. The duo is blessed with a two-and-a-half-year-old son, Taimur Ali Khan. Shahid Kapoor too has found his wife in Delhi-based, Mira Rajput Kapoor. He is now a father to two gorgeous children, Misha Kapoor and Zain Kapoor.
