Late Sridevi's Sarees Worn In Film, 'English Vinglish' To Be Auctioned On Film's 10th Anniversary

Bollywood's first superstar, late Sridevi needs no introduction. She was one of the most sought-after actresses of her time, and she had carved a niche for herself with back-to-back hit films and unparalleled dancing skills. Married to filmmaker, Boney Kapoor, Sridevi was a doting mommy of her two daughters, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor.

However, Sridevi had left for her heavenly abode after she passed away on February 24, 2018, due to accidental drowning in a hotel's bathtub in Dubai. Her untimely demise left a huge void in the Hindi film industry as well as in the hearts of her fans. However, her role of 'Shashi Godbole' in the film, English Vinglish is still etched in our hearts, and now, it's once again in the news for all the right reasons.

As the film, English Vinglish completes 10 years on October 10, 2022, filmmaker, Gauri Shinde along with the team of English Vinglish is planning to host a special event. In an interview with The Indian Express, Gauri Shinde talked about the same and shared that they will auction Sridevi's sarees which she had worn in the film. Adding that she had kept all of Sridevi's sarees safely for all these years, Gauri said:

“We are doing a celebration of the ten years of English Vinglish, so we are doing a screening in Andheri on October 10. We will do a screening, get people in, have a conversation about the film, that’s tentatively the plan. We are also going to auction her sarees, which I had very safely kept till now.”

After a hiatus of fifteen years post her hit film, Judaai, Sridevi had returned to films with the movie, English Vinglish, and she won hearts with her performance. Further in the interview, Gauri mentioned that the money collected in the auction would be used for girls' education NGO. Reflecting on the same, the filmmaker said:

“We are auctioning the sarees Sridevi wore as Shashi in the film. I would like to use it for girls’ education NGO. I always wanted to do this, but it never happened. I thought now, this would be the most befitting.”
