Malaika Arora Reveals Why She Took Divorce From Ex-Hubby, Arbaaz Khan, Says She Is Happier Now

From dancing on a train with Shah Rukh Khan in the song, Chaiyya Chaiyya to sharing the screen with the Dabangg actor, Salman Khan in Munni Badnaam Hui, Malaika Arora has made a name for herself in Bollywood. She is a self-made woman who is often spotted setting new fitness goals, impressing her fans with stunning looks, and occasionally appearing as a reality show judge. However, the whole world came crashing down for Malaika when she had decided to end her 19-year-long marriage with her then-husband, Arbaaz Khan, in 2017.

For the unversed, Malaika had tied the knot with actor-director-producer, Arbaaz Khan in December 1998. The couple embraced parenthood in 2002 when they had welcomed a baby boy, Arhaan Khan, into their lives. Later, owing to some problems, the couple decided to part ways in 2017. Since then, the ex-couple has been co-parenting Arhaan. And as they have moved on in their lives, Malaika Arora is often seen flaunting her bond with her boyfriend, Arjun Kapoor, and Arbaaz Khan is dating Giorgia Andriani.

In a recent conversation with Masala magazine, Malaika Arora was asked about her equation with her ex-husband, Arbaaz Khan. Answering this, the actress added that she continues to be his friend and is now more mature now. She said that she would always wish the best for Arbaaz as after separation they both are in a happy and calmer place. However, she said sometimes people are lovely but not meant to be together. In her words:

“We have a better equation now. We are far more mature. We’re just happier, calmer people. He’s a wonderful man, I only wish him the best in life. Sometimes, people are wonderful but they just aren’t great together. That’s just how it is. I would always wish him well."

Further, in the conversation, Malaika Arora mentioned that she does not regret her decision of asking for a divorce from Arbaaz Khan. She said that after being a single mother, she has a better bond with her son, Arhaan Khan. She said:

"I think I made my choice and I put myself first. And I think by doing that, I am a much better person today. I have a better relationship with my son; he sees that I am much happier. I have a much better relationship with my ex-husband. I’m happy I made these decisions and I stood up for myself. So, for women out there, don’t be scared. Don’t be afraid to follow your heart. Yes, you will ruffle feathers but life is not easy. You can’t make everyone happy."

Earlier, in an episode of Karan Johar’s Koffee With Karan, Arjun Kapoor had talked about his relationship with Malaika Arora at length. When Karan asked Arjun about the reason behind taking baby steps in his relationship, he had said:

“I think somewhere, I have lived the life being on the other end of the spectrum. I grew up in a confusing or dysfunctional situation where things were not the easiest being a son, having to see what was going on around and having an understanding of it, but still having to respect it and accept it. So somewhere, there was an understanding in my head about how I should try and ease everybody into it, including the first people around us. I can't just jump on her."
