Many a time you will notice two people in love, whom their peers term as ‘goals’, surprisingly drift apart without citing any reasons. Whenever such things happen, we should trust destiny and its choices and allow it to unleash its magic in our life and when you don’t, the repercussions can be fatal. One of the most remembered longtime split couples, Mona Singh and her co-star from her megahit show, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, Karan Oberoi, realised that destiny had other plans for them and moved away from each other. Karan Oberoi and Mona Singh met each other on the sets of the show in 2006 and had dated for a brief period until they surprisingly parted ways. Both had decided to not wash dirty linen in public and had maintained a low profile pertaining to their breakup. Both Karan and Mona were happily moving in their respective life until the former was caught in a rage of rape and extortion controversy recently, spent about a fortnight in jail and was recently proved non-guilty of the crime.
After appearing in the spotlight for quite a while, Karan Oberoi has maintained a low life in the past coupel of years. Very recently, he appeared in an interview with SpotboyE, wherein he, spoke about his breakup with ex-girlfriend, Mona Singh, 13 years post their split. Revealing the reason behind their low-key breakup, Karan shared with the portal, “I wanted to be with her. She is a wonderful girl and a great artiste. We were too young and different as people. Mona is very social, always bubbly but at that time marriage was not something she was looking at. Her career was going great guns and she wanted to focus on that.” Karan also shared that he was the one who had then wanted to settle down quickly with her, “Yes, I wanted to settle down very quickly.”
Surprisingly, Mona Singh stays about 3 blocks away from her once beau, Karan Oberoi’s building! Does it make things awkward whenever they end up bumping into each other? When asked about the same to Karan, he had shared, “There is just social hi and hello if we meet but no animosity as such. You can never behave ill with someone you have loved.” True that, Karan!
In a 2008 interview with an online portal, Karan Oberoi had shared how he had first met Mona Singh. He had then stated, “I met Mona for the first time when I had gone to Mauritius to shoot for Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin as a guest in one episode with her. It was her simplicity which attracted me to her in the first place. With Mona, it was not a case of love at first sight for me. Karan Oberoi, who was also his ex-muse’s co-star, spoke about sharing screen space with her. He had stated, “It was a superb experience to act with Mona because she used to make me cry even when she used to give me my cues. Mona is a damn good actor. Like me, she, too, has the uncanny ability to laugh. Like me, Mona, too, is aggressive when it comes to work. I tell her to see the script and then agree to do a film, if she is convinced that she will fit the role to a T.”
Mona Singh too, hadn’t ever shied away from accepting the fact that they were dating. During their courtship days, Mona had shared in an interview, “I love Karan. We share an amazing bond. I took my time in saying ‘yes’ because I was uncomfortable by all the media attention on our private lives. But Karan made me realise that giving up on love was not the right thing.” She had further added, “We are very compatible. I’ve always wanted to be with a person who would sing to me and Karan fits the bill perfectly.” Further talking about their marriage plans back then, Mona had revealed, “What’s the hurry? We both have to settle down in our careers.”
Karan Oberoi, in an interview with the IANS, had spoken vehemently about his marriage with Mona Singh. He had then shared, “We haven't finalised a date yet. But yes, our marriage is definitely on next year. I leave it entirely to Mona. She has Bollywood aspirations. I don't. For me, music is everything. And even if the band is reduced to a band of one (me), I'd still continue to sing. When I did a film 'Kiss Kiss Ko' with the Band Of Boys, the others were watching. A 2009 Times of India report contains Mona Singh talking about her and Karan Oberoi’s breakup. She had then shared, “This is a very personal issue and I never wanted it to be made public. Contrary to what was reported, Karan and I never dated for six years. In fact, we met only in 2006 and dated for some 16 to 18 months. We were great friends, but there was something amiss in our relationship. Mind you, it was not about cheating. We did try to sort out the differences, but then we parted ways on good terms.”
Now we finally know what led to Karan Oberoi and Mona Singh’s breakup. And the rest as we say is all in the present!
