After the arrest of Shilpa Shetty Kundra's husband, Raj Kundra, on July 19, 2021, for his alleged involvement in a porn racket, the Shetty family's life turned upside down. It was the most difficult phase not just for Shilpa but her mother, Sunanda Shetty and her sister, Shamita Shetty, too faced the brunt of netizens. The family was ruthlessly trolled, even for stepping out of their houses.
Almost a month after Raj Kundra's arrest, Shamita Shetty had entered the reality show, Bigg Boss OTT. Even after such a difficult time in her family, the actress had endured the courage to take up the reality show and face all the criticism keeping up a brave face. After her Bigg Boss OTT journey, Shamita has entered the Bigg Boss 15 house recently.

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Shamita Shetty spoke about being trolled badly after her jiju, Raj Kundra's arrest for his alleged involvement in porn racket. Speaking about the difficult situations at home, Shamita said, "It was very difficult for me the first time around because the situation was very different. I was unfortunately being heavily trolled for no fault of mine. My family also, at that point in time, felt that it's better for me to just lock myself in that house. And also it was a previous commitment, and I didn't want to back off because of everything that happened. I wanted to stick to my word and continue. As they say, ‘The show must go on'."
During her stint in Bigg Boss OTT, Shamita had bonded really well with her co-contestant, actor, Raqesh Bapat. Although the two had their own share of disagreements, Raqesh's concern for the actress had touched everyone. Raqesh had even professed his love for Shamita and had left her amazed.

In a conversation with ETimes, Shamita spoke about her relationship with Raqesh and stated, "Unfortunately, we haven’t got much time to spend with each other after coming out. He went straight to Pune to meet his family and I was spending time with my family. We didn’t get that much time together. Now, I am going inside Bigg Boss 15 so everything has to be on hold, till the time I come back out."
Speaking whether the two have met each other's parents, Shamita retorted, "It’s too soon to get the families involved. First Raqesh and I’ve to be sure about things and then we can look at it that way. Like I said all that is on hold right now."
