Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor had tied the knot in October 2012, and are blessed with two little munchkins, Taimur Ali Khan and Jehangir Ali Khan. In 2011, Saif’s father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi had taken his last breath due to respiratory failure. It was a tough time for their family, but Kareena had stood by the Pataudis and Saif’s mother, Sharmila Tagore has always praised her for that. For Sharmila, Bebo was there with her “just like my children and my family”, and since then, their bond is more of a mother and a daughter rather than a saas-bahu.
Sharmila Tagore and Kareena Kapoor Khan share such a warm relationship that the actress had ditched all the renowned designers for her wedding and had worn her saasu maa’s wedding dress. In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Sharmila Tagore had clarified that designer, Ritu Kumar had restored her wedding lehenga and had embellished the vintage outfit. Kareena has always praised her mother-in-law and the same is with Sharmila Tagore, who cannot stop bragging about her bahu.

In a conversation with ETimes, Sharmila Tagore shared how she is fond of her daughter-in-law, Kareena Kapoor Khan. Sharing that she loves the calm that Kareena holds, Sharmila said, “I am so fond of her. What is so wonderful about her is that she is so calm. I have seen her interact with her staff, her hairdresser and designer. I would sometimes snap at my hairdresser if we were being summoned and I would say zara jaldi karo, but not Kareena.”
Sharmila Tagore further shared that Kareena always says that she is like her daughter and also revealed her perfect reply to it. She said, “She is very patient and I love that about Kareena. Her presence calms me. She doesn't compare herself with anybody. She does her own thing. I am very happy that she is my daughter-in-law. She says, ‘I am like your daughter’. I say, ‘Yes you are’.”

Kareena Kapoor Khan’s book has been the talk of the town these days. In her book, Kareena Kapoor's Pregnancy Bible, she credited her mother-in-law, Sharmila Tagore for encouraging her to work during her pregnancy. An excerpt from the book could be read as "My mother-in-law was also among the first to tell me that I had to keep working. Her advice was to do whatever I wanted but with confidence."
In 2019, Sharmila was invited to Kareena's radio show, What Women Want to talk about the different roles of a woman. On the same show, Kareena had asked Sharmila about the difference between a daughter and a daughter-in-law.
To this, Sharmila had said that a daughter is someone you have grown up with. So you know her temperament, you know what makes her angry and how to deal with that person. However, when you are meeting your daughter-in-law for the first time, she is already an adult and you don’t quite know what her temperament is like, so it takes time to gel. The new girl, your daughter-in-law, is coming to your house, so you need to welcome her and make her more comfortable.
On the work front, Kareena Kapoor Khan will be next seen in Laal Singh Chaddha with Aamir Khan, whereas Sharmila Tagore was last seen in a romantic comedy, Break Ke Baad.
