Udit Narayan's birthplace


Udit Narayan is of the Nepal origin. However, he was born on December 1,1955, in a small village named Baisi, in Bihar. Moreover, he is a playback singer of Nepalese paternal descent.

Udit Narayan's parents


Udit Narayan’s father was Hare Krishna Jha, who was a farmer. His mother was Bhuwaneshwari Devi, who was a renowned folk singer, and had passed the singing gene to him.

Started his career with a Nepal Radio


Udit Narayan has made an immense contribution of more than 15,000 songs to the Indian music industry. However, he had started his career as a singer for a Nepalese radio station.

Initial training


Later, Udit Narayan had come to Mumbai on scholarship. He had received his training at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan for six years in classical music.

Udit Narayan's Marriage


In 1984, Udit Narayan tied the knot for the first time with Ranjana Narayan Jha, who hailed from Bihar. Since Udit had not made a name for himself back then, his marriage didn't receive any limelight.

Udit Narayan had shot to fame with the release of his song, 'Papa Kehte hain' from the movie, 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak'. The song proved to be a super hit and had lead him to his first Filmfare Award.

Apart from his unmatchable glory of five Filmfare Awards, Udit Narayan has also won 3 National Awards. He was also awarded the Padma Shri Award in 2009, and the Padma Bhushan Award in 2016.

First meeting with Deepa Gahatraj


Udit Narayan’s love for singing had helped him meet his wife, Deepa Gahatraj. The duo had met in 1979, while recording a Nepali album titled 'Hamro Geet'. Also, they had sung plenty of songs together.

Barely two years in his marriage, Udit found love in the arms of Deepa. By the end of 1985, the two had tied the knot, without Udit having procured a divorce from his first wife, Ranjana Narayan Jha.

Udit and Deepa had a son within one year of their marriage and named him Aditya Narayan, who now happens to be a well-known singer in Bollywood.

When Udit Narayan's past haunted him


In April 2006, Udit had come to Patna for a show, and had booked a room in a hotel when Ranjana had forcefully entered with a string of media reporters and claimed that she is Udit's wife.

Udit Narayan's marriage controversy


Udit Narayan had called it a stunt to malign him. However, Ranjana didn't give up and showed a series of photographs and documents to prove that she indeed was married to Udit.

Almost three months after the legal tussle had ensued, Udit had publicly acknowledged his first wife, Ranjana, and had agreed to provide for her maintenance and upkeep.
