Jaya Bachchan had once praised 'bahu' Aishwarya Rai and spoke about their unique relationship. Here's what she had to say.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan were in the news because rumours had swirled that the duo was heading for a split. Fans were already perplexed, shocked, and curious about what was happening in the Bachchan parivaar. The whispers roared louder when fans saw that Jaya Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Shweta Bachchan had maintained stoic silence over the matter. However, once Jaya had revealed that she shared a great relationship with Aishwarya.
Once, Jaya revealed the relationship she had with her bahu, Aishwarya Rai, during a conversation with Reddit. She had called the actress her friend and said:
"She is my buddy. If I don’t like something about her, I tell her on her face. I don’t do politics behind her back. If she disagrees with me, she expresses herself. Only difference is that I can be little more dramatic and she has to be more respectful. I am old, you know. That’s all."
Jaya had also said that Aishwarya had a busy schedule. However, they liked sitting at home and talking rubbish. Jaya agreed that Aishwarya did not have a lot of time because of her packed routine, but whenever she had time, they made the best use of their bond and had a great relationship. However, when she was asked if she was strict with her bahu, earlier in an interview with fashion designers, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. The actress-turned-politician quipped:
"Strict? She’s not my daughter! She’s my daughter-in-law. Why should I be strict with her? I’m sure her mother has done that for her. There is a difference between a daughter and a daughter-in-law, you know. I mean, I don’t know why, but you don’t feel you don’t need to respect your parents. As a daughter, you take your parents for granted. With your in-laws, you can’t do that.”
Interestingly, Jaya has spoken and been praised by Aishwarya many times in her earlier interviews. She often highlighted that the actress has a caring and strong nature. During an earlier appearance on Koffee with Karan, Jaya opened up about Ash's bond with the Bachchan family. The veteran actress had also mentioned that when her daughter, Shweta got married, there was a void in Amitabh's life, which was then completed when Aishwarya came into their lives. The Silsila actress, also revealed that whenever Amitabh saw Aishwarya, he became happy. In her words:
“Amitji, the minute he sees her, it’s like he’s looking at Shweta coming home. His eyes light up. She’ll fill the vacuum that Shweta left. We have never been able to adjust that Shweta is not in the family, she is out and she is not a Bachchan. It’s tough."
Fans quickly noticed that on November 1, 2024, when Aishwarya turned 51, neither Abhishek, Shweta Nanda nor Amitabh wished the actress a happy birthday. Her in-laws did not acknowledge and Abhishek's stoic silence has made fans believe that a crack has happened in the Bachchan family.
