Khushi Kapoor recently shared a school memory, revealing that she used to be the ugly friend who passed notes to girls from boys.
When you think of someone like Khushi Kapoor, daughter of legendary actress, Sridevi and renowned filmmaker, Boney Kapoor, getting ignored at school is not the first thing that comes to mind. But in reality, despite being a star kid, Khushi did not have the easiest social life growing up as she did not have the so-called ‘attractive’ qualities approved by society. This often made her feel ugly and invisible, not only in the limelight but also in her personal circle. The Naadaniyaan actress recently shared a school memory, which made fans feel more connected to her.
Khushi Kapoor recently shared a childhood memory in a chat with the Zee Music Company. The budding actress offered a glimpse into her school days when she used to be the messenger who passed letters and notes from boys to their female interests. Recalling how boys would only approach her to pass love notes, Khushi shared:
“Actually main school main kaafi badsurat thi, ladke mere paaas aate the aur bolte the 'teekhe maine yeh chitti likha hai, aapki dost ko dedo', main voh thi.”
Khushi Kapoor did not feel comfortable with the way she looked growing up, and society did not make things any easier for her. As far as she can remember, someone always commented on her appearance or made fun of her, sometimes even unintentionally. Over the years, the actress underwent numerous cosmetic procedures to achieve the look she wanted, and she candidly talked about the need for celebrities to be transparent about such things rather than giving people false hope.
During a SCREEN Live event earlier this year, Khushi got candid about her experience of being judged for her looks and how those remarks affected her self-esteem. Imagine for a second the humiliation she must have faced for being made fun of as a kid and constantly compared with her gorgeous mother, Sridevi, and her elder sister, Janhvi Kapoor. Khushi talked about the ‘vicious cycle’ and shared:
“When I was a young girl, I was made fun of how I looked. I didn't look like my mother or sister. Your self-esteem takes a hit when you are a young child. I took a keen interest in vanity and to look a certain way, and I don't think that it is a bad thing, especially when I know these are the things people are pointing out. I am not saying that it is something that people should or shouldn't do. I haven't done the hundred things that people have said I have done, but it is a part of taking care of yourself sometimes. Skincare, fillers, I don't think these are the things a person should be scrutinised for.”
Khushi’s memories of being the ugly messenger in school struck a chord with many who have found themselves in her shoes at some point. This anecdote has made the Loveyapa actress more relatable, and netizens have poured in their opinions. Comments like “Ye toh meri story hai” and “Literally me” filled the comment section.
