Meghalaya honeymoon murder case: It was Sonam Raghuvanshi, who asked the 'supari' killers to kill her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi.
What started off as a mysterious case of two honeymooners missing in the hills of Meghalaya turned out to be a heinous crime committed by a newly-married bride, Sonam Raghuvanshi against her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. Now, as per the new reports, Raja was killed in front of Sonam's eyes.
On June 9, 2025, Sonam, along with her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha and three other contract killers were arrested for Raja Raghuvanshi's murder. In an interview with India Today, Shillong police official, Vivek Syim shared that according to the accused, it was Sonam who had instructed the hired killers to 'Hit him (Raja)'. She was present during Raja's murder as the accused revealed during the probe. The accused arrived in Shillong a day before Raja was murdered.
Raja's body was found in a gorge in East Khasi Hills district on June 2, 2025, after days of being missing while Sonam was nowhere to be found. According to CCTV footage, Sonam was seen talking to the three hitmen around 10 kilometres away from the crime scene. On May 25, 2025, Sonam travelled from Shillong to Indore via Siliguri by train. According to the police, she met her alleged lover, Raj, and they stayed in a rented accommodation in Indore. Later, she was dropped off in Uttar Pradesh, and she reached Ghazipur via Varanasi. It was in Ghazipur that Sonam was detained by the local police, and was found at a dhaba.
For those who don't know, the weapon used to murder, Raja Raghuvanshi was bought near the Guwahati railway station. Police found out that Sonam wasn't posting any pictures of her and Raja during their honeymoon trip, which raised suspicions about her. However, police's doubt about her got stronger was a post from Raja's social media account right after his murder, which read, 'Saat Janmon ka saath."
According to Meghalaya, police sources shared the shocking details about Raja Raghuvanshi. Sonam is the prime suspect in the case. Raja's decomposed body was discovered in a gorge, while Sonam was found alive in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur. According the police sources in Shillong, Sonam planned her husband, Raja's murder with her beau, Raj Khushwaha. They decided to hire contract killers to execute their plan.
During the entire operation, Raj was continuously in touch with Sonam over the phone. The three contract killers, Akshay, Vishal and Anand were in Shiloong where the couple was enjoying their honeymoon. The murder was carried out after Sonam lured her husband onto a deserted road in Cherrapunji. After carrying out the murder, the four accused when from Shillong to Assam's Guwahati for a day and left together before separating.
