Parveen Babi has been unlucky in love, and not many know that she was first married to a man, who flew to Pakistan and never returned.
Parveen Babi is a personality that the Indian film industry can ever forget. From her films to her life trajectory, all is well known to the media and her countless fans. However, Parveen had to leave the film industry as she struggled with a mental ailment, and whispers of her deteriorating mental health were all over the nation. Another highlight of her life was her relationship with three men, Danny Denzongpa, Kabir Bedi and Mahesh Bhatt. However, little is known about Parveen Babi's life behind the camera and one of the fact is that she was once married to a man who went to Pakistan and never returned.
Recently, in an interview with BBC News Hindi, Mahesh Bhatt discussed Parveen Babi's deepest secret about her marriage. The late actress had been unlucky in love, and it was particularly unfortunate that the man she was married to also left her. According to Mahesh Bhatt, he discovered the actress' marriage after he was in a relationship with her, as her mother would often discuss the man. He said:
"About her getting married, I got to know about it later when we were already in a relationship. When her mother would visit from Junagadh, she would discuss this sometimes because by then we were in a relationship. I was living with her. So there, it was discussed that she had been married once and then the man moved to Pakistan."
Mahesh Bhatt further revealed that years later, after his separation from Parveen Babi, a man visited him in Pakistan, where he went for a film festival in 2003. However, he wasn't able to meet him due to his busy schedule. Sharing the moment, he said:
"Many years later, in 2003, I visited Pakistan for a film festival. There I was told that someone wants to meet you but I couldn’t meet them. I never said I don’t want to meet him but it somehow did not work out. I was thinking why would he want to see me? I was never a person who shut my door to anyone."
Parveen Babi and Mahesh Bhatt's love story was short-lived. Parveen fell in love with him while he was still married to his first wife, Lorraine Bright, also known as Kiran Bhatt, mother of Pooja Bhatt and Rahul Bhatt. It was the year 1977 after Parveen's publicised split with Kabir Bedi. Parveen was devastated after her relationship with Kabir ended, and she found comfort in Mahesh Bhatt. However, their relationship couldn't withstand the test of time and the actress' deteriorating mental health.
For the uninitiated, the relationship between Kabir Bedi and Parveen Babi was the most talked-about topic. She was the first lady who healed Kabir's wounded heart after his marriage with Protima ended. However, their relationship was short-lived, and they parted ways. There were murmurs in the media that it was due to Kabir Bedi, Parveen Babi's mental health was deeply affected. After her breakup with Mahesh Bhatt, Parveen disappeared from the limelight and left the industry and lived a quiet life away from the media glares. In 2005, Parveen was found dead in her home at the age of 52.
