A look into the lesser-known side of iconic singer, SP Balasubrahmanyam's life that speaks volumes about his love for his wife, Savitri. Here's everything you need to know about their temple wedding.
SP Balasubrahmanyam made his debut as a playback singer in December 1966, and his last song, "Annaatthe Annaatthe," was released in 2021. The legendary singer passed away on September 25, 2020, leaving a void in the Indian music industry that will never be filled. SP Balasubrahmanyam was also known by the nicknames "SPB" or "Balu", and he sang in a total of 16 languages. He was among the most celebrated singers of his generation.
With six National Film Awards, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and the Guinness World Record for recording the highest number of songs, 50,000 by a singer in 16 languages, he left an indelible mark on the music industry. Despite being one of the greatest singers in the history of the Indian music industry, SP Balasubrahmanyam was loved more for the kind of person he was in real life than for his exceptional singing abilities. The iconic singer always lauded his competencies and was never involved in any controversies or industry politics.
SP Balasubrahmanyam sang songs across a range of different genres during his illustrious singing career. However, it is fair to say that "romance" was the one genre that brought him a lot of success and fame. SP Balasubrahmanyam's songs, such as Pehla Pehla Pyar, Dil Deewana, Mere Rang Mein, Aaya Mausam Dosti Ka, Wah Wah Ramji, and Dekha Hai Pehli Baar, are known to almost everyone. However, only a few people are aware of the love life of the singer whose songs made multiple generations fall in love. Today, we are going to take a look at SP Balasubrahmanyam's filmy love story.
SP Balasubrahmanyam was married to a lady named Savitri. The couple got married back in 1969 and welcomed two children, Pallavi and SP Charan, into their lives. Despite being the wife of one of the greatest singers of all time, Savitri always remained in the shadows, far from the limelight. For the uninitiated, Pallavi and Charan work as playback singers in the industry, carrying on their father's legacy. SP Charan is married to a lady named Aparna, and the couple lives a low-key life. Regarding the legendary singer's daughter, Pallavi, she is also married to a man named Arun Kumar, and the two share a child.
SP Balasubrahmanyam and his wife, Savitri, got married at the iconic Simhachalam temple in Vishakhapatnam. The reason behind this is the fact that the iconic singer's family was against his decision to marry Savitri. Although the reason behind their disagreement was never publicly revealed, SP Balasubrahmanyam and Savitri indeed got married in the presence of the former's close friends. According to a report in The Times of India, SP Subrahmanyam's friend, M Sarma, opened up about the singer's temple wedding and said:
"His family members were against the marriage. Balu's friends Raviprolu Subrahmanyam, alias Subbaiah, and others extended their support to him."
After the couple got married at the temple, SP Balasubrahmanyam reunited with his family, who accepted his wife, Savitri, as their daughter-in-law. In the end, everything turned out to be in favour of the beautiful couple, who led a wonderful married life ahead. In the following decades, Balasubrahmanyam achieved great success in his career, and his wife's constant support and belief in him played a tremendous role in his journey. Unfortunately, on September 25, 2020, SP Balasubrahmanyam died due to severe health complications from COVID-19.
As expected, the tragic demise of SP Balasubrahmanyam left his wife, Savitri, absolutely heartbroken. It was a difficult time for Savitri, but she managed to pick herself up and face the harsh reality that her husband, SP Balasubrahmanya, was no longer with her. Currently, Savitri resides with her children and fulfils her role as a grandmother to her grandchildren. We wish Savitri good health and happiness.
