Meet Vedan, A 29 Year Old Rapper Arrested, Police Seized Rs. 9.5 Lakhs And Some Illegal Substance

Vedan, a Kerala-based rapper, got arrested in a drug case from his residence in Kochi along with eight other members of his music band. Read on to know who Vedan is.

Some members of the Malayalam film fraternity, including directors, actors and playback singers, are making the headlines with their illegal linkage with drugs and illegal substance. After Malayalam directors, Khalid Rahman and Ashraf Hamza, were arrested for possession of illegal substance, a fresh arrest of a 29-year-old Kerala rapper is now leading the headlines. Earlier this month, famous Malayalam actors, Shine Tom Chacko and Sreenath Bhasi were also arrested due to their connection in a drug case.

On April 27, 2025, Kochi police arrested three persons, including Malayalam directors, Khalid Rahman and Ashraf Hamza, during a raid conducted around 2 am at a flat near the Gosree Bridge, Kochi. Soon after their arrest, the next day, on April 28, 2025, police arrested Vedan, a 24-year-old rapper, from his apartment near Vyttila, Kochi. Read on to know who is this Kerala rapper, Vedan.

Who is Vedan?

Hirandas Murali, popularly known as Vedan, is an Indian rapper and songwriter who was born in Thrissur, Kerala. In June 2020, when he was 25 years old, Vedan gained prominence for his first music video, Voice of the Voiceless, on YouTube. In 2024, Vedan collaborated with Sushin Shyam, and wrote the lyrics of the song, Kuthanthram, from the blockbuster hit movie, Manjummel Boys. He worked as a playback singer and contributed songs like Narabali for Nayattu, Kuthanthram for Manjummel Boys and Maranathin Niram for No Way Out.

Details of the case registered against Vedan

On April 28, 2025, Vedan was arrested along with eight members of his music band by the Hill Palace police. The police seized six grams of illegal substance, during a raid at his residence in Swas Flat, Tripunithura, Kochi. Police also seized an amount of Rs. 9.5 lakh in cash, and several mobile phones. One of the officers said that around 11 am, they made a raid on Vedan’s apartment after getting a confidential tip-off that some youngsters frequently visited Vedan’s residence to consume drugs. He also mentioned that after months of surveillance, they made the raid. After a six-hour procedure, the police arrested Vedan and his friends. Medical examinations were conducted, and the accused got bail.

Vedan was accused of sexual misconduct by a group of young women

Earlier in 2021, Vedan was accused of sexual harassment by multiple young women. No official case was registered against him, but the testimonies were anonymously shared on social media, bringing up allegations against the Kerala-based rapper. It was a Facebook page, Women Against Sexual Harassment, that first published the dark experiences of young women whom Vedan allegedly harassed. Soon after the allegations of sexual misconduct came up, taking to his Instagram handle, Vedan posted a public apology. In his apology post, Vedan wrote:

"I feel great self-contempt and terrible regret as I look back on the lapses in my conduct towards you, my women friends, and partners who came to me in trust and friendship. I totally deserve to feel this pain. With all due sincerity and without an iota of pretence I offer my heartfelt apologies.”
