Sara Ali Khan made her acting debut with the Abhishek Kapoor directorial film, Kedarnath, co-starring late actor, Sushant Singh Rajput. It was released on December 7, 2018, and received a huge acclaimation from the audiences then. Following this, on December 28, 2018, Sara was seen in her next film, Simmba, co-starring Ranveer Singh. Thus, we can easily understand how the dates had collided between the shoot of the two films. This led to a legal feud between Sara and Abhishek, which was now discussed by the latter in a recent conversation.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Abhishek Kapoor talked about his legal fight with Sara Ali Khan. He mentioned how Sara had reportedly allotted her free dates to Karan Johar-backed film, directed by Rohit Shetty, Simmba. Thus, the shoot of Kedarnath was hampered due to this, and the filmmaker then had to fight a legal battle with Sara. He said:
“Movie making is not easy. You have to take care of your film, protect it in such a way that you have to protect it even from key people who are supposed to support your film and from scenarios that can be created, unfortunately. Those days, my dates (from her) were given to somebody else by some overenthusiastic management that was running her. It was just unacceptable to us. I had to finish my film, I could not afford to let go of the dates because I had a big set standing.”

Further, in the same conversation, Abhishek talked about the irony of how he and Sara used to fight in court and simultaneously continue their filming. The legal battle was actually going on side by side with the shoot of Kedarnath. Thus, the director ensured the film was not jeopardised with the same. Undoubtedly, we can see how beautifully Kedarnath then happened and could eventually mesmerise its viewers. He continued:
“Simultaneously, there were some financial issues with some fraudulent people we got untangled with, unfortunately. But the film could not be jeopardised. I had to fight her, but at the same time on the same days we were shooting together also. To get my dates back, we had to go to court. While we are fighting in court during the day, Sara and I are shooting important scenes the same evening in a temple!”
In the same conversation, Abhishek then talked more about the aftereffects of such a situation, wherein both he and Sara had to go through the shoot and court proceedings, simultaneously. The filmmaker mentioned that the experience taught them to isolate and compartmentalise things. He added:
“We are in a situation, but this movie is as much yours as it is mine, so we can’t jeopradise it. We may be stuck in a s**t of a situation, but let’s be like actor and director while making the film. These are the scenarios that help you grow as an individual. Even out of that, both of us have taken something home.”

Further, Abhishek was asked about the then-ongoing reports, which claimed that Sara's mother, Amrita Singh, wanted Simmba to be her daughter's debut film. To this, the filmmaker straightaway denied knowing anything of that sort and mentioned that he had little interaction with Amrita. However, Abhishek also praised Sara and called her 'the natural choice' to lead the film along with Sushant. He mentioned how Sara's personality matched with the character very well.
