Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai have been extremely private about their personal lives. From staying silent in the sea of rumours to ignoring the harsh criticism about their every move, the couple has maintained a dignified silence on it all. However, they have had enough with fake videos of them being circulated on YouTube and Google and have decided to take appropriate legal actions against the companies.
Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai have reportedly taken legal action against YouTube and Google over AI-generated deepfake videos. According to a report by Reuters, the couple has demanded nearly USD 450,000 (approximately Rs. 4 crore) in damages against Google and others, as well as a permanent injunction to prevent such exploitation.
According to reports, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai's lawsuit consists of hundreds of links and screenshots of what the couple has alleged shows sensitive content. This includes videos that are allegedly 'egregious', 's**ually explicit' or 'fictitious' AI content. The report by Reuters revealed that the actors have argued that the YouTube content and the third-party training policies are concerning.
Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan have stated that these AI-generated videos enable users to consent to sharing a video they create to train rival AI models. The couple's claims further stated that these videos risk the proliferation of misleading content online. The information has been shared based on near-identical filings from Abhishek and Aishwarya, dated September 6, 2025, which are not publicly available. While the complete report is not available to the public, a part of the filing could be read as saying:
"Such content being used to train AI models has the potential to multiply the instances of use of any infringing content, i.e. first being uploaded on YouTube, being viewed by the public, and then also being used to train."
In their filings, Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan claim that the AI platforms' training is based on content that portrays them in a negative manner and infringes their intellectual property rights. They further expressed their concern over how the AI models "are likely to learn all such untrue" information, leading to its further spread. The Delhi High Court has asked Google's lawyer to submit written responses to the court by August 2025, prior to the next hearing on January 15, 2025.
