Andy Byron became an overnight sensation within seconds of featuring on Coldplay's live concert. His private moment with his company's HR, Kristin Cabot, was leaked online, after which, Andy was criticised for cheating on his wife. Soon, people across the world started speculating about the alimony he had to pay for cheating on his wife. But, in reality, California law doesn't see cheating as a marital crime. 

Andy Byron won't have to pay huge alimony according to the California Law

Andy Byron was all over the internet last month, as social media speculated over his divorce saga and custody battles. But according to experts, who have studied marital law, 'cheating' doesn't guarantee that it will lead to huge 'alimony'. In an interview with The Blast, a Family law attorney, Richard Sullivan, highlighted:

"People often assume cheating automatically impacts the outcome of a divorce, especially emotionally charged cases like this."

The lawyer further revealed that in California, the courts don't care who cheated or why the reason for a couple ending their marriage. They do not consider it a judgment when passing on the financial outcome. Infidelity is morally outrageous but not punishable in the courtrooms of California. The lawyer stated:

"But California is a no-fault divorce state. That means the court doesn’t care who cheated or why the marriage ended. Infidelity may be morally outrageous, but it doesn’t change the financial outcome."

In simpler terms, California law doesn't provide special compensation for a spouse who has been morally wronged in a marriage. However, things change unless funds are used to support the affair, like expensive gifts or travel, but cheating has no legal consequences in a divorce matter.

The lawyer further revealed that the court also decided custody on the basis of the well-being of a child, and not what the person did in their personal life, which led to the end of a marriage. So, Andy might have publicly embraced his family, but the court will see if he can provide better stability. Sullivan shared:
