Imtiaz Ali’s Netflix film, Amar Singh Chamkila, has become one of the most loved Hindi films of 2024. Be it the gripping story of the Punjabi singer, the director’s cinematography or the fabulous acting of the star cast, the film has undoubtedly left an impression on the audience's minds. For those who don’t know, Amar Singh Chamkila stars Diljit Dosanjh in the titular role, Parineeti Chopra as ‘Chamkila’s second wife, ‘Amarjot Kaur’ and Anjum Batra as the singer’s closest friend, ‘Kesar Tikki’. It was released on the streaming platform on April 12, 2024.
Recently, during an interview with India Today, Anjum Batra spoke at length about working with Imtiaz Ali and Diljit Dosanjh on his latest project. He said that the Punjabi singer-turned-actor has some divine connection and recalled how Diljit would chant ‘Wahe Guru’ and ‘Om Namah Shivaay’ after every shot. Revealing that Diljit remains in a constant state of meditation, Anjum said:
“Diljit paaji performs between action and cut and then instantly goes back to chanting Wahe Guru and Om Namay Shivaay. I think he is constantly in a state of meditation and has a divine connection with the almighty all the time. Ek roohani taar hai unke beech.”

Anjum also shared that he was starstruck after meeting Diljit for the first time. Recalling the first time they met, the actor revealed that the singer joined his hands and greeted him, and the ice between them broke after their shot. Anjum mentioned that Diljit praised his acting skills and questioned why he never worked in Punjabi films. Moreover, the two actors also bonded over life and acting throughout the shoot of their latest film.
Further, Anjum shared his thoughts about working with the eminent filmmaker, Imtiaz Ali, who has directed massive blockbusters and cult classics like Jab We Met, Rockstar, and Highway. Calling him the kindest soul, the actor said that he made everyone very comfortable on the set. Moreover, he heaped praises on the director’s research work and said:
“Imtiaz sir is the kindest soul that you can work with. I believe both of them are God's favourite children, and we are his favourite too as we got an opportunity to work with them. On set, he really made us comfortable. He would ask us to take as many retakes as we want as one should be honest with their craft. Sir's homework can put anyone to shame.”

In the same interaction, Anjum discussed the best feedback he had received for his stint in Amar Singh Chamkila. He shared that the grandson of Kesar Tikki, whom the actor portrays on-screen, reached out to him and even invited the actor to their home in Ludhiana. Recalling how it was an emotional moment for him, Anjum said:
“He told me how I resemble Kesar Singh Tikki in his prime. After seeing the film and my performance, Tikki's wife was left in tears saying how her husband has become immortal with this film. That was such an emotional moment for me.”
After the success of Netflix’s courtroom drama, Mamla Legal Hai, which has been renewed for a second season, Anjum Batra is basking in the success of Amar Singh Chamkila as well. Previously, he has worked in films like Force, 83, The Dirty Picture, Dev.D, and others.
