Late actor-director, Raj Kapoor is considered one of the most iconic figures in the history of Indian cinema. Better known as the Show Man of Bollywood, Raj Kapoor is often admired for his sheer talent and ability to juggle multiple roles at once. However, it isn't just Raj Kapoor's professional life that has been a common talking point. The legendary actor's personal life and romantic affairs also garner curiosity among fans to this day. Well, recently, the nephew of the Mera Naam Joker star's wife, Krishna Kapoor opened up about how another late actor unintentionally played a key role in uniting the couple. And it was Mahal actor, Ashok Kumar.
The late Krishna Kapoor's nephew, Monty recently appeared on Vickey Lalwani's YouTube channel for a candid chat, during which he opened up about his aunt's first meeting with the man who would eventually become her life partner, Raj Kapoor. According to Monty, the late actor, Ashok Kumar was unknowingly responsible for the love blossoming between Raj and Krishna.
Monty revealed that Raj had been holidaying in Madhya Pradesh with actor-director, Prem Nath when he first heard Krishna playing the tanpura. The latter used to don a veil over her face while playing, but Raj, who was taken with her talent, insisted on seeing her face. In Monty's words:
"Krishna, my bua, Krishna aunty was playing the tanpura there. Raj uncle wanted to see her face but she would stay under a veil."
Then, Prem Nath hatched a plan. Krishna was a massive fan of Ashok Kumar, so Prem Nath realised that she might raise her veil for him. So, Prem Nath lied and told Krishna that Ashok was with him. Upon hearing this, Krishna immediately raised her veil, after which Raj and her eyes met. And the rest was history. Talking about how they instantly fell in love, Monty recalled:
"She was a very big fan of Ashok Kumar so my father said 'Krishna, mere sath Ashok Kumar aaya hai, so she picked up the pallu and she saw Raj Uncle and it was love at first sight. And they got married."
As sweet as the beginning of their love story was, Raj Kapoor and Krishna Kapoor were destined to have a tumultuous relationship for years to come. The actor was 21 when he tied the knot with a 16-year-old Krishna. However, the couple was plagued with whispers of Raj's affairs. The actor's overly friendly relationship with Nargis, who starred alongside him most frequently during the early years of RK Films, frequently sparked affair rumours despite him being a married man. Later, Raj sparked speculations with another co-star, Vyjayanthimala, further straining his relationship with his wife, Krishna. Despite Raj staying married to Krishna for the rest of his life, he once confessed that they weren't close and he hadn't exactly been 'a good family man.'

Krishna Kapoor had also elaborated on her turbulent relationship with Raj Kapoor in past interviews. She admitted that she was frequently "jealous" because of the attention showered on the actor by his co-stars and fans. In Krishna's words:
"Although he always treated me like a queen, I was very jealous when his fans and girls chased him. All this was too much for me to handle then."
Krishna also admitted that their marriage wasn't the happiest, and there were times when they didn't talk. Both Raj and Krishna knew that there was 'turmoil' in their marriage, but they also realised that they couldn't live 'with or without each other.' Later in her life, Krishna came to understand that a celebrity's life was like an open book. She also grew to regret the days when she and Raj hadn't spoken to each other. She described this new-found understanding as 'maturity.'
