Irrfan Khan was one of the most loved actors in the film industry. While the actor left us too soon, the audience have had close eyes on his son, Babil Khan. As the young actor is now basking in the success of his recent cyber thriller, Logout, he has also shared his plans for the future.
Babil Khan has so far proved his mantel with his impeccable portrayal of versatile characters in a spectrum of projects. While he has his own unique voice, he has also decided to follow his father, Irrfan's footsteps to some extent. In a recent conversation with Filmfare, the actor revealed that he has decided to drop his surname in the future.
During the conversation, Babil Khan was asked about his father, late actor, Irrfan Khan's royal heritage. At first, Babil reacted with a lighthearted joke, calling himself a 'prince'. However, when he was asked if he had any emmeory of his ancestral place, Babil revealed that his grandfather had given away everything to detach himself from the materialistic world.
In the same conversation, Babil Khan also cited how his father, Irrfan dropped the 'Khan' surname. He added that he planned to do the same in the future, as he would like to explore his own individuality and make a name for himself. He further stated that there was no moral agenda behind his decision, but rather to build something of his own. He was quoted as saying:
"The lineage makes you a part of this conformity. It doesn't allow you to express your individuality. To let your individuality shine, you have to let go of your lineage."
In an interview with IndiaToday in 2016, Irrfan shared the reasons behind dropping his surname. He revealed that wherever he goes, he sees people discussing what their forefathers did and take pride in it. However, Irrfan felt sad for them, as they didn't have any choice of their own and were living in the past. Nonetheless the Piku actor wanted to live life on his own terms and be known for who he was. He was quoted as saying:

"It was a very conscious decision. At one point, I understood that it's us... it's our choices that write the story of our life. It's not my background, nor my lineage, but rather my actions and choices that will help me write the story of my life. I wanted to emphasise that I should be known for what I do, not for my background, caste, or religion. These are my personal things, and they should remain with me. It's not for the public."
Logout is a story about a digital influencer, 'Pratyush' essayed by Babil. The influencer has a following of almost 10 million followers. However, as he prepares for this milestone in his career, his dreams are shattered when his phone goes missing. The film further shows how 'Pratyush' loses control of his life to a stranger. Babil will next be seen in the Indian-American film, Yakshi, alongside Malayali actress, Anna Ben. The short film promises to be an exciting project for the young actor, showcasing his versatility in yet another challenging role.
