Meghanathan was an Indian actor who worked in Malayalam and Tamil films. He made his debut in 1983 with his role as ‘Johny’ in PN Menon’s Asthram but is best known for his role as ‘Ravi’ in the 1986 crime drama, Panchagni.
The Malayalam actor, Meghanathan passed away in the early hours of November 21, 2024. The actor took his last at a private hospital in Kozhikode. Meghanathan was admitted to the hospital due to a lung-related illness.

As reported by Manorama, Meghanathan’s last rites will be held at his residence in Shoranur on November 21, 2024. The actor passed away after undergoing intensive treatment for his lung ailment. He is survived by his wife, Susmitha, and daughter, Parvathi.
Meghanathan had five siblings: two brothers, Anil and Ajayakumar, and two sisters, Latha and Sujatha. He completed his primary education at the Asan Memorial Association in Chennai. The actor then moved to Coimbatore to obtain his diploma in automovile engineering. He eventually settled in Shoranur, Palakkad.
Meghanathan was the third son of veteran Malayalam actor, Balan K Nair, born Balakrishnan Nair and Sarada Nair. Balan was popular for his antagonist roles in films and was lauded for his strong portrayal of negative characters. He was known as one of the best villains of Malayalam cinema during that period.

On the professional front, Meghanathan made his debut in 1983 with the film, Asthram, which starred Bharath Gopi, Mammootty, Mohanlal, Nedumudi Venu, and Jyothi in the lead roles. The movie is said to have been inspired by the Nanavati murder case. The actor worked in the Malayalam and Tamil industries for three decades, in which he starred in more than 50 films.
Meghanathan was immensely loved for his roles, especially in movies like Panchagni and Chamayam. Panchagni was directed by Hariharan and was inspired by the life of Naxalite K. Ajitha. K. Ajitha was part of the Naxalite movement in Kerala in the 1960s. The role of the Naxalite, named ‘Indira’ in the film was played by Geetha and Meghanathan was seen in the role of her younger brother named, ‘Ravi’ who was unemployed and a drug addict.
Meghanathan was further seen portraying several strong roles in his career, including his role as ‘Raghu’ in the drama film Chamayam, which Bharathan directed. ‘Parameshwaran’ in 1993 Bhoomigeetham, ‘Veeran’ in Thulasidas’s 1994 comedy film Malappuram Haji Mahanaya Joji. Meganathan played another role named ‘Raghu’ in Ee Puzhayum Kadannu, a romantic drama, directed by Kamar starring Dileep and Manju Warrier.
