It’s official! Disney has announced that Camp Rock 3 is in the works for Disney+ and Disney Channel, marking the franchise’s return 15 years after Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. The announcement has sent waves of excitement across fans of the beloved musical series, but it also came with a major twist: one of its biggest stars won’t be back. The Jonas Brothers, Joe, Nick, and Kevin, are set to reprise their roles as ‘Shane’, ‘Nate’, and ‘Jason Grey’, the members of ‘Connect 3’. Meanwhile, Demi Lovato, who rose to stardom as the series’ lead ‘Michie Torres’, will not be returning to the screen.
The revelation that Demi won’t reprise her role as ‘Mitchie’ has sparked a wave of disappointment and anger among longtime Camp Rock fans. Social media quickly filled with frustrated reactions. A fan wrote on X, “Camp Rock without Demi doesn’t make sense at all, she was literally the protagonist,” and another added, “Sorry but Camp Rock is nothing without Demi… she is Camp Rock.” While Demi will be returning as the executive producer, many argue that her absence as Mitchie could take away the heart of the story.
Instead of focusing on ‘Mitchie’, the third film will introduce a new generation of campers competing for the chance to open for Connect 3’s reunion tour. According to the official synopsis, the band loses their opening act and returns to Camp Rock in search of fresh talent. Joe, Kevin and Nick will be returning in their original roles.
The upcoming Camp Rock 3 will introduce a fresh lineup of campers who bring their own unique energy and talent to the story. Leading the group is ‘Sage’, played by Liamani Segura, a bold and determined new star, alongside her easygoing brother ‘Desi’, played by Hudson Stone. Malachi Burton joins as ‘Fletch’, the rebellious camp bad boy. Adding a touch of nostalgia, Maria Canals-Barrera returns as ‘Connie’, ‘Mitchie’s’ supportive mother, creating a strong connection between the beloved originals and this exciting new chapter.
The film will be directed by Veronica Rodriguez and written by Eydie Faye, the creative duo behind 2023’s The Slumber Party. Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, emphasized the importance of the franchise, he could be quoted as saying:

“Camp Rock is an important part of the Disney Channel Original Movie legacy, with unforgettable music, energetic storytelling, and characters that live in the hearts of fans to this day. Bringing it back with Kevin, Joe, Nick, and Demi is such a full-circle moment, and we can’t wait to reintroduce this world to a new generation.”
While excitement and controversy swirl around Demi’s absence, fans can still look forward to a fresh take on the Camp Rock universe. With the Jonas Brothers back and a new cast ready to bring drama, music, and romance, Camp Rock 3 promises to be both nostalgic and modern. However, a release date has not yet been confirmed.
