In a throwback 2011 iDiva report, Nita Ambani had shared how she had always wanted to become a mother and would write essays on becoming one, in school. When asked what was the one door she couldn’t pry open despite her riches, connections and power, she had retorted, “Becoming a mother. A few years after I got married, I was told by the doctors that I would never have children. Even when I was in school, I would write long, copious essays titled, ‘When I’ll be a mother…’ Here I was at the age of 23 being told that I would never conceive. I was shattered. However, with the help of Dr Firuza Parikh, who is one of my closest friends, I first conceived my twins!”
And finally, on October 23, 1991, Nita Ambani and Mukesh Ambani had embraced parenthood with the arrival of their twin children, Isha Ambani and Akash Ambani. Isha and Akash were born to Mukesh and Nita via In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and three years later, their youngest son, Anant Ambani came into their lives and completed their family. Before we share with you how Nita Ambani dealt with her pregnancy, let us go on a time-travel and see how the Ambani siblings were, as kids. According to an iDiva report, Nita Ambani had a traumatic pregnancy with Isha Ambani and Akash Ambani as they were delivered two months earlier in a state of a medical emergency. Even though with Anant Ambani, who was naturally born to her, she had a smooth pregnancy, it was the excessive post-pregnancy weight gain that had taken a toll on her. Speaking of her weight gain from 47 kilos to 90 kilos, Nita ji had said, “Everything was double magnified. I was so overjoyed at being a mum that I had let myself go.”
Nita Ambani has always had a firm hold on her family. When their kids, Isha Ambani Piramal, Akash Ambani and Anant Ambani were growing up, it was Nita, who had asked her husband, Mukesh Ambani to influence them too. She had shared in an interview with a leading portal, “I told him you may be busy influencing the future of Reliance and the country, but you better influence the future of your kids too. I believe that it’s not just quality but also the quantity of time spent with the kids that makes them sound individuals.” (Also Read: Radhika Merchant's Unseen Childhood Picture Reminds Us Of Good Old Days, Amazes Us With Innocence)
Isha Ambani Piramal too, in a February interview with the Vogue, had spoken about her star family and handling business disagreements. She had shared, “We are a family-owned business but that does not mean we are family-run. With my mother in the school, I work for her. Similarly, with my father at Reliance, I work for him. So it’s like any boss-and-subordinate relationship, but we always discuss everything in a healthy and open way. I definitely cannot be making any decision in isolation. We have to take calls in a responsible and data-driven way and we also have the management and boards to answer to. In a professionally-run ecosystem, there is no place for personal disagreements.”
Isha Ambani Piramal had also thrown light on the passion and energy that the entire family gets to work in the same interview, “I really don’t know. I think it’s just the pace of life I’ve seen and lived all my life. I don’t know if my parents have known another pace. To be honest, if anything, it has slowed down for them from what it used to be. Like in my growing-up years in Jamnagar, when it was still early days for Infocomm, when everything was being birthed… one can’t imagine the dedication and perseverance I have seen [in my parents]. In many ways, what you grow up seeing is what you become. We’ve seen that happiness comes from work.”
In a one-of-a-kind revelation, Isha Ambani Piramal had also shared that she and her twin brother, Akash Ambani were born via In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Speaking about the same, Isha had revealed, “My parents had us after seven years of marriage—my twin Akash and I were IVF babies. When my mother finally had us she wanted to be a full-time mum initially. Later, she went back to work when we were five, but she was still a tiger mom.”
What is it like to grow up in one of the most respectable and richest families in the world? Isha Ambani Piramal had answered in the same interview, “The surprising truth is that though my parents were exceptionally busy, they were really hands-on. I was born in 1991, right after Liberalisation, which was a real inflection point for the Indian economy—it was the first time that Indian companies could dream of global scale. I saw my father work very hard to chase that dream and build Reliance into the organisation that it is today. And though he worked long hours, he was always there when we needed him. At home, we were raised to have the same value system that our parents grew up with. They made sure we understood the value of money, hard work and humility.”
Apart from being a wonderful mother and a wife, Nita Ambani has been leading various Reliance enterprises. Speaking about what she has learnt from her mother and about her attitude towards women at her workplace, the multi-millionaire heiress had stated, “As much as I want to believe that women can have it all, I know that my mom gave it all up to raise us. But once we grew up, I also saw her balance work and home perfectly. Watching her play all these different roles—from full-time mom to businesswoman—I learnt how important each facet is in a woman’s life and how one needs to define what “having it all” means during these different stages. I feel very passionately about gender equality and equal participation in the work force because growing up I was made to believe that I could do whatever my brothers could do, as well if not better. So as a working woman, I believe that companies must create an environment that fosters equal participation.” (Also Read: Nita Ambani Is The Most Loving Mother-In-Law To Shloka Mehta And Anand Piramal, Here Are The Proofs)
