Deepika Padukone Reacts To The '8-Hour Work Shift' Row Amid 'Kalki 2' And 'Spirit' Exit, 'It's No..'

Deepika Padukone has been making headlines ever since she demanded an 8-hour work shift. Following this, the actress has to depart from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit and now from Nag Ashwin's Kalki 2. While almost everyone shared their views on the actress' demand, Deepika had maintained a dignified silence until now.

Deepika Padukone has finally broken her silence after a row emerged over her demand for an 8-hour shift following her exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit and Nag Ashwin's Kalki 2. In a candid conversation with CNBC-TV18, Deepika shared how "male superstars" have been doing an 8-hour shift for years, but it "never made headlines".

In the conversation, she pointed out that, because she is a woman, she is being seen as pushy. She added that while her demands are being called 'unjust', men have been doing the same for years without facing the same consequences. She was quoted as saying:

"By virtue of being a woman, if that's coming across as being pushy or whatever, then so be it. But it is no secret that a lot of superstars, male superstars, in the Indian film industry, have been working for eight hours for years, and it's never made headlines."

In the same conversation, Deepika Padukone further stated how not only male actors get a lighter schedule, but they also get breaks on the weekend. The actress also pointed out how the industry is 'very disorganised' and it was time that they finally did something about it. She cited that even though the Indian film world is "termed as an industry, we have never really worked like an industry." She also urged that it was time for some actual change to happen and stated:

"I don't want to take names now and make this into a whole thing, but it is very commonly, publicly known that a lot of male actors have been working for eight hours a day for years. A lot of them only work for eight hours Monday to Friday. They do not work on weekends."

Deepika Padukone started a massive debate with her demand for an eight-hour work week. Reportedly, she wanted to work not more than eight hours a day during the shoot so that she could be with her daughter, Dua. However, her demands weren't met, and she had to exit the film, Spirit. Recently, Vyjayanthi Movies announced that she is no longer a part of the Kalki 2898 AD sequel.

In their statement, the makers revealed that they have made the decision to part ways with the Chennai Express actress after "careful consideration," adding that a film like Kalki deserves a higher level of "commitment." However, Deepika didn't let the same deter her and she began shooting for King just a few days later. The film is directed by Siddharth Anand. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Suhana Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan, among others. Deepika will also star in Atlee's upcoming film, AA22xA6, alongside Allu Arjun.
