Mumtaz has remained one of the most loved actresses in the film industry for her unfiltered nature and evergreen beauty. She captured the hearts of her fans with her portrayal in films like the 1975 Love Story, Prem Kahani, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, which was released in 1971, the 1974 film, Chor Machay Shor, and the 1970 movie, Sacha Jhuta. The film made it impossible for the fans to ignore just how gorgeous the actress was. Still, for the actress, it was nearly impossible to maintain such beauty standards, and in an old interview, she shared some interesting anecdotes about her co-stars.
Not too long ago, Mumtaz sat for a candid conversation with Radio Nasha. During the conversation, the actress reflected on Dev Anand's obsession with looking young. She revealed that Dev once told her that even when an actor dies, they should look good.
Mumtaz added that it was Dev who would tell her to take care of her hair, her figure and her overall appearance, so when she walked down the street, not just men but women couldn't help themselves but turn and look at her. She was quoted as saying:
"Even if an actor dies, their corpse should look good. He told me, 'You need to take care of your hair and your figure and take care of yourself because you are what you look like. When you walk down the road, both men and women should turn their heads to look at you. If you take care of yourself, you will never have to worry about your age.'"
In the same conversation, Mumtaz recalled that she was visiting Dev Anand, who was 85 years old at the time. She added that to prove to her that age was just a number, Dev Anand asked his makeup man to open a door in his room, and three women were caught peeping inside. Unfazed by the incident, Dev turned to Mumtaz and pointed out how he still had options. Mumtaz was quoted as saying:
"He just casually told them that he'll get back to them, closed the door and said to me, 'See, baby, I still have options,' and I just sat there saying, Wow."
During her career, there was a stretch when Mumtaz suffered from being type-casted. The biggest stars of Bollywood, like Shashi Kapoor, Dharmendra and Rajesh Khanna, have worked with Mumtaz over her storied career, including Dev Anand, on two separate occasions. However, she took the good with the bad and even today maintains that the love she still receives from the people is endearing. She was quoted as saying:

"People come up to me to take pictures, and I feel so proud that even though so many years have passed, I think I have given around 50 years of my life to this (industry). But people still love me the same, and it doesn’t take them more than a second to recognise who I am. You have to look good and presentable. Even today, more men love me than women."
