The latest series, FX's Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, shows the journey of one of the most iconic couples. Unlike his father, John F. Kennedy Jr. took a different path, becoming a well-known journalist and attorney. His life has been a subject of media discussion, especially his love story with Carolyn Bessette, an American fashion publicist.

John F. Kennedy Jr. was one of the most handsome men in America, and Carolyn Bessette was the love of his life. The duo got married in 1996. Soon after their marriage, John and Carolyn became a subject of great interest in the media. However, as destiny had it, John and Carolyn’s love story was cut short after they boarded the fatal flight in 1999 and died in a plane crash off the coast of Martha's Vineyard.

As per YourTango, Carolyn’s longtime friend, Barry Stott recalled how she once voiced her concern over the same and told him:

“I’m secretly terrified of flying with John because he’s so easily distracted. He doesn’t seem to take it seriously enough.”

Two weeks after this conversation, Carolyn Bessette and John F. Kennedy Jr. passed away in a plane crash. Did she get a premonition about their death, or was she only concerned about John’s flying? Well, it looks like their life turned into a complete mystery with their death.

Carolyn Bessette first met John F Kennedy Jr in the early '90s, when he came to buy a suit at Calvin Klein. Carolyn Bessette attended the VIP clients. He was instantly smitten by her charm and couldn’t help falling in love with her. John reportedly pursued Carolyn Bessette; however, she refused to commit because she did not believe JFK Jr. was serious. 

Although the duo dated briefly in 1994, they separated after JFK Jr. reconciled with his ex, Daryl Hannah, that same year. Although John F. Kennedy Jr. had resolved his issues with Daryl Hannah, the relationship did not last long and ended in a permanent split in 1994. Following the separation, John and Carolyn started dating again. 

After a year, JFK proposed to Carolyn on a boat ride, and she accepted. Although they were the most publicised couple, they kept their marriage a secret. In September 1996, JFK Jr. and Carolyn got married in a secret ceremony attended by only 30 people, including family and friends. Journalist and author, Carole Radziwill described the wedding as “one of the best-kept secrets of modern times”.

JFK Jr. and Carolyn's relationship took a tragic end in 1999 when they met with a fatal plane crash. JFK wanted to become a pilot since childhood and took flying lessons at the Flight Safety Academy. He received his pilot training in 1998 but took a three-month hiatus after his cousin’s accident. On April 28, 1999, he purchased a plane from Air Bound Aviation and travelled with his wife, Carolyn and sister-in-law, Lauren Bessette.

Lauren was supposed to be dropped off at Martha’s Vineyard, and JFK, along with Carolyn, were supposed to attend his cousin’s wedding. But soon, the plane was reported missing after it failed to arrive at the Martha Vineyard Airport. On July 21, 1999, Officials recovered their bodies, aircraft debris and a black suitcase belonging to Carolyn from the Atlantic Ocean.
