Stephen Colbert is all set to make his debut in Elsbeth Season 3. The character is based on the intriguing lawyer, 'Elsbeth Tascioni', who was first introduced in The Good Wife and later in the spin-off series, The Good Fight. The character's unique way of handling the cases hooked the audience, leading to her getting a show, and now we are down to the third season. However, while 'Elsbeth' is not nervous about anything, the actress, Carrie Preston, revealed that she was extremely nervous about filming with Stephen Colbert.
In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Carrie revealed that she feels that Stephen Colbert has a bright onscreen future, despite recent events. The Emmy-winning actress raved that the late-night host is 'such a great actor' after working with him on the Season 3 premiere, Yes, And…, following the shocking cancellation of The Late Show. Talking about the same, she is quoted as:
"It was really serendipitous because for months and months we had been working to get these actors on the show. [Executive producer] Jonathan Tolins wrote the script specifically for Stephen Colbert. Then the week before we were about to start filming, it was announced that his show was done."
In the same conversation, she revealed that she was extremely nervous when it came to filming with the star. Carrie revealed that working with Stephen's meta-casting as fictional late-night host, Scotty Bristol, was announced in early August 2025, a couple of weeks after the network announced The Late Show would end in May 2025. She recalled:
"We were concerned that he was going to be too busy dealing with that, and he wouldn’t be able to come. But he came, and not only did he come, but he came fully prepared. He was fully game and so happy to be there."
In Yes, And…, 'Elsbeth' (Carrie Preston) dives into the world of late-night comedy when backstage tensions rise between a talk show host (Stephen Colbert), his head writer Laurel (Amy Sedaris) and her on-air sidekick husband, Mickey (Andy Richter). Also, 'Elsbeth' meets a new police officer (guest star, Lindsay Mendez) who is an aspiring stand-up comic when off the clock.
Stephen Colbert's appearance in the episode is accompanied by guest stars: Andy Richter, in the familiar role of a late-night show sidekick, and Amy Sedaris as his wife, the show's head writer, who is seen being very cosy with Stephen in some recent first-look images. Recalling how filming for the episode went, Carrie revealed that Stephen is a great actor and was fun to shoot with despite the initial nerves. She shared that she had been a fan of Amy for a long time, so it was a fangirl moment for her to have her there. She added:

"I was basically begging her to be my friend by the end. I just think she’s fantastic. And then Andy Richter, too. He’s playing a sidekick on a talk show, but he was the sidekick on the talk show forever [with Late Night, The Tonight Show and Conan]. But they’re all different characters. I just thought it was really brilliant and that the timing worked out so well that they were all available to come and play with us."
