Celebrity MasterChef has been making headlines since its beginning. The popular cooking competition opened its doors for celebrity contestants in India for the first time, who are competing to win the title. It's hosted by Farah Khan, and well-known chefs, Vikas Khanna and Ranveer Brar judge the dishes made on the show. On the other hand, popular celebrities like Usha Nadkarni, Dipika Kakar, Tejasswi Prakash, and Nikki Tamboli are the contestants in this cooking reality show who have kept the audiences hooked on their journey. However, a recent show episode became controversial after one of Farah Khan's comments landed her in legal trouble. Here's what happened.
Farah Khan is a popular choreographer, TV personality and YouTuber. She is known for her unfiltered personality that often entertains the audience. Recently, Farah hosted an episode on the show and casually interacted with the contestants. However, after talking with Gaurav Khanna, the choreographer gave a controversial comment on the Hindu festival of Holi that did not sit well with the audience. She said:
"Saare chhapri logon ka favourite festival Holi hota hai."
For those unaware, "chhapri" is considered a casteist slur, and its use in the context of Holi has drawn criticism from different sections of the audience. Critics have accused her of making fun of the festival and disrespecting it. At the same time, IANS has reported that Vikas Fhatak, a.k.a Hindustani Bhau, a popular social media influencer, has filed a complaint against her for her insensitive remark on the Hindu festival. The complaint was allegedly filed on February 21 in Khar Police station under Indian Penal Code sections 196, 299, 302, and 353. He is seeking strict action against her. As per the report, Hindustani Bhau's lawyer, Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh, said:
"My client believes that Farah Khan's comment was not only disrespectful but also has the potential to create communal disharmony. Using the term 'chhapris' to describe a sacred festival is highly inappropriate."
Farah Khan's statement soon became a subject of debate on social media and received mixed reactions. Some people believed she commented in a 'fun context', but many others accused her of disrespect and demanded legal action. One netizen wrote, "She is a loudmouth and often makes irresponsible statements." Another viewer penned," Such people should apologise publicly." However, Farah has not made any statement about her reaction to her remark.
