Farida Jalal is one of the iconic actresses in Bollywood. She is best remembered for essaying the quintessential roles of a mother and grandmother. The legendary diva’s presence in the celluloid even today, feels like a warm embrace to the cinephiles, who love her personality incredibly. Recently, Farida left an indelible mark in the hearts of her audiences once again, with her stellar performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.
In a recent interaction with Zoom TV Entertainment, Farida Jalal opened up about her views on actors approaching filmmakers for work, and not the other way round. She revealed not believing that some actors go to such lengths for work, and compared it with her early memories, when filmmakers used to come to her home and respectfully approach her with scripts. Farida explained:
“We were always approached by the filmmakers. I don’t know how an actor can go and ask for work. That’s not my scene, I can’t do it ever in my life. People used to come to my house with respect to offer me work. But do actors really go and ask for work? I don’t know about this. I have never asked for work. They would come to me to narrate the script and I’d either say yes or no.”

Speaking more on the same lines, Farida Jalal remembered her early years, and revealed that it was her mother, who used to guide her through the meetings with the various producers and filmmakers. Expressing how her mother had remained over-protective of her, Farida mentioned:
“My mother used to look after it because I was a very young girl then. My mum would tell me which producers called, she was over-protective of me. She would always come to the sets with me.”
Earlier, in an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Farida Jalal made a startling claim about filmmaker, Karan Johar, with whom she has been a part of a number of films, including the hit saga, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. The actress remembered Karan’s father, Yash Johar, who revealed that her roles in films were written even before the heroes’. However, Farida added that Karan, on the other hand, now makes films which doesn’t have any suitable roles for her, expressing how he has shifted his loyalties too soon.

Previously, while speaking to India Today, Farida Jalal talked about her co-stars, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. For the unversed, the actress has been the on-screen mothers of both the superstars in many films. However, with the progression of time, the veteran actress revealed she lost touch and contact with them. In her words:
“How do I get to him? Tell me. (even) Salman, how do I get to them? You know, they have changed their mobiles or whatever.”
