Nancy Guthrie's disappearance case has increased tension between the FBI and local authorities

Amid the intense search for Nancy Guthrie's whereabouts, some online reports, including one by Reuters, alleged that the investigation into the case has created tension between federal investigators and local authorities over forensic evidence handling. It claims that the FBI had requested key physical evidence, including DNA samples and a glove recovered near Nancy's home, be sent to its national crime laboratory in Quantico, Virginia. However, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos reportedly chose to send the materials to a private laboratory in Florida instead. However, the latter denied any conflict and told KVOA-TV that the decision was based on efficiency and not conflict. Sharing his views, he said:

"Why do that? Let's just send them all to where all the DNA exists, all the profiles and markers exist."
