Gaurav Gupta is an award-winning Indian couturier who has proved the mettle of his skills as a designer at some of the most significant fashion events in the world. So far in his promising career, the ace fashion designer has won numerous awards for his incredible contribution to the fashion world. Over the years, Gaurav has won numerous titles and awards. However, some of his most notable achievements in recent times include the 2003 Future of Couture Award, the 2018 Rule Breaker Award, the 2019 Ecopolitan Designer of the Year, and the Excellence in Fashion Award.
Not only this, Gaurav Gupta continues to make his mark on the international stage with his creative collections time and again. For instance, in January 2025, the ace designer broke the internet with his 'Across the Fire' couture collection at Paris Fashion Week 2025. For the uninitiated, Gaurav's wife got injured in a fire accident that took place at his atelier in Delhi. Fifty-five per cent of Navkirat's body was burnt, and she only had a survival rate of just 55 per cent.
By God's grace, Navkirat Sodhi managed to come out of the near-death injury after being treated by doctors in the ICU for almost 2.5 months. As a result, when Gaurav Gupta decided to appear at the 2025 Paris Fashion Week, he stunned everyone as he took inspiration from the fire accident and transformed it into a surreal collection.
Gaurav Gupta's wife, Navkirat Sodhi, served as his muse for the show and embraced her scars with a smile and a breathtaking cream-hued draped corset gown. Courtesy of all these achievements, Gaurav Gupta is hands down one of the tallest figures in the Indian fashion industry, with his influence beaming on the international stage every now and then.
In 2019, Gaurav Gupta sat down in an interview with Vogue India and addressed the much-asked questions about his sexuality. Gaurav Gupta also added that the way Indian cinema mostly portrayed homosexual characters as silly and teasing also contributed to the way society treated them in real life. The couturier also admitted that due to being bullied and harassed in school for being a homosexual kid, he couldn't focus much on his studies and flunked in the sixth grade. He said:
"I'm okay talking about my sexuality openly now, but when I was younger, people didn't even know what being gay was. People would say things like "he's 'a' gay". In mainstream movies, the gay character was often silly and teased—that was the stereotype. I was really bullied in school; I went through torture, but that is a part of my strength today."
In another interview with TIME Magazine, Gaurav Gupta spoke about his wife, Navkirat Sodhi. When the designer was asked how they fell in love because while Gaurav is a homosexual man, Navkirat is a straight woman, Gaurav gave a beautiful answer. The designer explained that he and Navkirat don't understand the concept of gender and marriage. The only thing they understand is the 'feeling of pure love'. Giving themselves the moniker of 'Twin Flames', Gaurav Gupta admitted that he is glad to be with his wife, Navkirat, who is a recognised poet and author. He said:
"Navkirat [Sodhi, poet and author] is my soulmate and life partner. We don't understand concepts of marriage or gender, we just have a feeling of pure love, so we decided to be life partners. It is like we are twin flames."
