The Delhi High Court is currently looking into the case of late businessman, Sunjay Kapur's inheritance. The case that began with a plea filed by Bollywood actress, Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay's two children, Samaira and Kiaan Raj, has taken a wild turn with all the members of the Kapur family standing against one another over Sunjay's estate, which is estimated to be around Rs. 30,000 crore. The court was in session on February 10, 2026, and had now urged the family to consider mediation to sort their issues.

Delhi High Court suggest Sunjay Kapur's family consider mediation in the inheritance dispute

On February 10, 2026, the Delhi High Court asked the parties fighting over late businessman, Sunjay Kapur's estate to consider resolving the dispute through mediation. During the session, Justice Mini Pushkarna said the case reflects a "sorry state of affairs" and that "a lot of dirty linen was being washed in the open". The Court expressed its grief over the great loss the Kapur family has suffered with the passing of Sunjay, but also asserted that the family should thank God for blessing them with significant financial wealth.

The court said that the wealth left by Sunjay Kapur should be enjoyed by everyone in a positive way, rather than becoming a curse. The panel noted that both parties were suffering from the months-long trial and that they needed to make efforts to resolve the dispute. The court added:

"The effort should be from both sides. Ultimately, all the parties are suffering, and she [Rani Kapur] is already so old. No one should see a person's son or daughter being demised when they are still alive. She has suffered a lot. You [Priya Kapur] are also suffering."

Addressing Senior Advocate, Akhil Sibal, who was representing Priya Kapur, the Court said that it expected his client to take a more proactive approach. Justice Pushkarna shared that since "you are at the helm of the affairs, you can make this happen". The court further added that Priya was alone now and that she and her children should also be taken care of. They were quoted as saying:

"She is there alone now. She has to take care of the children. As far as Defendant No 1 [Priya Kapur] and her children are concerned, they also need to be taken care of."

The court suggested mediation, considering the lawsuit filed by Rani Kapur for the cancellation of the family trust

The court further asked counsel for all parties to speak with their clients and obtain instructions on whether to proceed to mediation. Justice Pushkarna made the suggestion after a lawsuit filed by Rani Kapur to cancel the family trust, which is valued at several thousand crores. Rani sought directions that the interim dividend of around Rs. 28 crore should not be passed to Priya Kapur. The Bench also considered the application filed by Rani's daughter-in-law, Priya, to reject the former's suit.
