The couple dated each other for more than ten years before getting married due to legal reasons on December 31, 1997.

Helen and Taylor tied the knot at the Ardersier Parish Church in the Scottish Highlands. The couple spent their night in the historic Castle Stuart tower. While they wanted it to be a secret wedding, Mirren accidentally gave away the secret by placing a local order for flowers.
