Bollywood actress, Hema Malini is hailed as the OG Dreamgirl of the Hindi film industry, and rightly so. While her beauty charmed her co-stars and fans back then, she continues to inspire her contemporary actresses even at 75. For the unversed, Hema Malini started her acting career with the Tamil film, Idhu Sathiyam. Later, in 1968, she was cast as the lead in the film, Sapno Ka Saudagar. Thereafter, the actress did not look back and continued to rise high.
Hema Malini became the leading actress in Bollywood in the 70s and made a name for herself in the industry. Over the years, she appeared in many films like Andaz, Johnny Mera Naam and Seeta Aur Geeta, among others. However, it was Hema Malini's appearance in the 1975's most iconic film, Sholay, which made her popular. Later, she was featured in the film, Dharmatma, which was produced, directed and acted in by Feroz Khan.

If reports are to be believed, the initial script of the film, Dharmatma, had a liplock scene between Feroz Khan and Hema Malini, which was supposed to happen during the song, Kya Khoob Lagti Ho. It was at a time when kissing scenes were a taboo even in Hindi cinema, but Feroz was willing to take the risk. However, Hema Malini’s mother, Jaya Chakravarthy, who accompanied her daughter to movie sets back then, was against the kissing scene. She refused to let Hema do a kissing scene, and ultimately Feroz had to remove the scene from the screenplay.
For the unversed, Dharmatma was the first Hindi film to be shot in Afghanistan and was inspired by Francis Ford Coppola’s film, The Godfather. For the film, Feroz Khan wanted to make Hema Malini look more glamorous and sensuous than ever before. However, it was no less than a challenge for him as Hema was constantly fighting to cover herself up more. Then, Feroz had told Hema:
“Trust me, Baby. You will never be presented more classily.”

Earlier, in an interview with Lehren Retro, Hema Malini opened up about signing the film, Baghban, opposite Amitabh Bachchan, which became a box-office success. Talking about the same, the actress said that she wasn't initially convinced to play a ‘mother of four’ in the family drama. She recalled that when the director, Ravi Chopra, told her the film's storyline, she immediately decided that she would not sign the film. However, as soon as Ravi left, Hema turned to her mother, Jaya Chakravarthy, and told her that she couldn't do the role as she was returning after a sabbatical. But the actress' mother convinced her to sign the film and told her that the story was very good and the role was very nice.

For the unversed, Hema Malini got married to actor, Dharmendra, in 1980, while he was already married to his first wife, Prakash Kaur and had four kids, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Ajeeta and Vijeta. Hema and Dharmendra's relationship raised many eyebrows, but the much-in-love couple was unfazed by the criticism and trolling spewed upon them. Dharmendra and Hema Malini became parents to their daughter, Esha Deol, in November 1981 and welcomed their second daughter, Ahana Deol in July 1985.
