Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla's Love Story With Wife, Kamna, Friends From Primary School To Soulmates

The Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station is all set to take off on June 25, 2025. Piloted by Indian astronaut and IAF officer Shubhanshu Shukla, it will also carry three other crew members to the International Space Station. Led by Commander Peggy Whitson, the space crew is set to travel to the orbiting laboratory onboard a new SpaceX Dragon spacecraft. 

ISRO astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla will be the mission pilot, and it is a proud moment for all Indians. Shubhanshu is one of the four astronauts selected to fly to space. It is one of the most awaited moments in Shubhanshu’s life as he left his life as a fighter pilot and stepped into the uncharted world of spaceflight.

A native of Lucknow, Shubhanshu, who was inspired by the Kargil War, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from NDA in 2005. It was in 2006 when Shubhanshu was commissioned into the Fighter stream of the Indian Air Force as a flying officer. He was selected by the IAM in the astronaut selection process and was sent to Russia for basic training.

Just like his professional life, Shubhanshu’s personal life is equally interesting. He is married to his best friend, Kamna Mishra, who is his biggest cheerleader. Let us read on to know more about Shubhanshu and Kamna’s love story.

Shubhanshu Shukla met Kamna Mishra at primary school

Shubhanshu Shukla has surely made the nation proud, but it is his wife, Kamna Mishra, who is the happiest about all his achievements. She is a dentist by profession and has known Shubhanshu since school. Do you know that Shubhanshu and Kamna are childhood sweethearts? In an interview with The Times of India, Kamna talked about the same and said:

“We’ve studied together since Class 3. We’ve been best friends. I’ve known him as Gunjan, as Shubhanshu—the shy guy in our classroom—who’s now inspiring so many people.”

Kamna Mishra is Shubhanshu Shukla’s strength

Kamna always believed in Shubhanshu’s dream and stayed with him through thick and thin. Lovingly known as ‘Shux’, Shubhanshu had a never-say-never attitude, which made him one of the four pilots selected for the Axiom-4 mission. But being married to someone from this path is difficult for Kamna, because he is often away from the family.

Shubhanshu, who is close to his six-year-old son, Sid, misses his son’s early years of growing up, but that doesn’t deter his spirit and his duty towards his nation. Despite being absent from many family moments, Kamna is his strength and one of the poignant reasons for his successful career. In an interview with ANI, Shubhanshu’s mother praised Kamna and said:

“It is a moment of pride for us and everyone else. Everyone is delighted that a man from this country, this Triveni Nagar, is going to soar so high...He has all the support of our daughter-in-law. This could not have been possible without her... She has played the biggest role here.”

As Shubhanshu Shukla sets out on the Axiom-4 mission, he pens an emotional note for his wife, who has been his guiding light. Before he jets to become the first Indian astronaut to visit the International Space Station, Sudhanshu posted a picture of himself bidding goodbye to his wife, Kamna and wrote:

“As we plan to leave the planet early morning of 25 Jun, I wish to thank everyone who has been involved in this mission for their support and also to all the people back home for their blessings and love. Special thanks to Kamna for being the wonderful partner that you are. Without you none of this was possible but more importantly none of this would matter.”

As Shubhanshu Shukla takes off for the International Space Station, Kamna is keeping her fingers crossed. From best friends to soulmates, Shubhanshu and Kamna have each other’s backs.
