Weddings are a special moment in everyone’s lives. It’s not just the coming together of two souls, but two families, cultures, and traditions. Recently, an Indian couple, who live in California tied the knot in a lavish ceremony. However, it wasn’t the extravagance which shone the brightest, but it was the unique tweak that they did during their pheras which immediately caught our attention.
The bride, Raadhika Shah, a registered nurse at UCLA Hospital, tied the knot with her groom, Nimit Shah, a product manager at Peloton who also works in his family's diamond business. Both their families are Jain immigrants in the States. What brought the two together was not their similar family backgrounds but their shared love for Indian cinema.

According to Vogue India, both Raadhika and Nimit Shah met for the first time during a Bollywood dance competition. And just like any other romantic Bollywood movie, their fates were sealed during the same competition, which took place in 2016. The duo shares a deep love for sun-soaked California coast, dancing, and of course, Hindi cinema. They were in a long-distance for several years before finally tying the knot in 2023.
The couple, Raadhika and Nimit, wanted a wedding that would pay homage to their Indian roots, reflect their Marwari and Gujarati heritage, and, at the same time, blend Southern and Northern California influences. And as decided, they threw a grand celebration that spanned four days at a ranch in Southern California.

Raadhika and Nimit’s wedding festivities began with a traditional Jain Snatra puja, which is a type of puja that is done before any auspicious event. The puja was done to bless the couple before their wedding at the mesmerising Hummingbird Nest Ranch. Later other wedding ceremonies, such as mehendi, haldi, Ganesh puja, and a poolside Italian-themed sangeet, were arranged to celebrate the coming together of the two sweethearts.

For her mehendi, Raadhika donned an absolutely gorgeous green-hued bandhani-printed half lehenga, and she accessorised her look with a gorgeous matha patti, choker, and earrings. The then-to-be bride wore a pretty yellow-hued lehenga with a one-shoulder top and complemented her look with a heavy statement jewellery set for their haldi ceremony. On the other hand, the groom looked dapper in a white-coloured-printed sherwani.
Raadhika opted for a custom teal mirror-work lehenga and a silver-hued full mirror-work choli for the sangeet. She kept her glam minimal and let her happiness do all the talking. The bride-to-be completed her look with a gorgeous matha patti, bangles, two necklaces and a pair of earrings. Nimit's royal blue sherwani and tan-hued loafers complemented the bride's look.
Raadhika wore an ivory lehenga with zardozi, gota, and nakshi work for the main wedding ceremony. She used two dupattas to complete her OOTD. Her traditional pieces of jewellery screamed of opulence. Raadhika opted for smokey-shimmery eyes, and nude-hued lips to complete her overall look. At the same time, Nimit donned a pearl-white raw silk sherwani with tonal embroidery.
Moreover, the bride, Raadhika, opted for a sequinned red-hued lehenga, and her choli had cutesy detailing at the hem. She paired the lehenga with gorgeous diamond jewellery for her reception. For the event, the groom, Nimit, opted for a white shirt and coat, complementing it with black trousers and shoes.
According to Vogue India, Raadhika's mother designed her wedding jewellery, which she considers heirlooms to pass down to the next generations. Nimit designed Raadhika's engagement ring and wedding band, featuring pear, oval, and emerald cut diamonds. Raadhika reciprocated the gesture by gifting Nimit a classic gold love band from the luxury brand, Cartier.
Raadhika revealed to the magazine that the duo focused much on equality during all of their wedding ceremonies. The bride led the pheras, and ditched the ‘kanyadaan’ ritual (a ritual where the bride is given away to the groom by her family). She mentioned:
“We flipped a few of the traditionally male-dominant aspects of the ceremony. I chose to lead the pheras and also opted out of a kanyadaan.”
We wish Raadhika and Nimit Shah a very happy and healthy married life.
