Ira Khan, daughter of Aamir Khan and his first wife, Reena Dutta, has been vocal about her struggle with depression and mental health issues, sharing her own experiences in her interviews. The star kid has not had an easy life growing up, given her personal struggles, and the equation with her parents, which has now improved significantly, and now, she and Aamir share a wholesome father-daughter bond. Recently, Ira Khan opened up about a phase where she felt doubtful of her capabilities for not earning money even at 27.
Aamir Khan and Ira Khan recently had a conversation with Pinkvilla, where the father-daughter duo opened bared their hearts, offering glimpses into their personal lives. A deeply emotional moment unfolded when Ira, now 28, opened up about a period of deep guilt and self-doubt she experienced before launching her mental health foundation, Agatsu. She shared:
"Main 26-27 saal ki hoon, mere maa baap ne mere upar bahut paise kharch kiye hain, aur main duniya mein bekar insaan hoon, main kuch nahi kar rahi hoon… not earning money, not doing something worthy, before starting Agatsu.”
Aamir immediately stepped in to reassure his daughter, adding that this phase was before she decided to change people’s lives with Agastu. He clarified Ira’s feelings, saying, “Inka matlab hai, paise naa kamana”.
After Ira’s emotional revelation, Aamir went on to explain how society’s obsession with money often blinds people to the true impact of kindness and service. He pointed out that money is just a piece of paper we all agree to value, but the real purpose and human connection are worth so much more. The ever-doting father reassured Ira that to him, what’s more important is that she is doing well and not how much she earns. He was quoted as saying:
"Aap paise kama rahe ho ya nahi, wo mere liye important nahi hai. Aap kaam accha kar rahe ho, ye mere liye important hai. Money is actually a promissory note that everyone decides to agree to — or else it's just a piece of paper."
Both Aamir and Ira have been vocal advocates for mental health, even sharing in past interviews that they participated in joint therapy sessions. In a joint appearance on Netflix India's YouTube channel, they discussed how therapy is often misunderstood in India, where seeking help is wrongly seen as a sign of having 'mental problems.' Aamir admitted that this stigma often forces people to hide their struggles. He also shared how therapy had helped him personally and spoke about attending joint therapy sessions with Ira to strengthen their bond. Aamir said:

"Therapy is so helpful. I think she (Ira) pushed me down that path. I would strongly recommend therapy to anyone who feels the need for it. It has been helpful for me. In fact, Ira and I have also started joint therapy. The two of us go to a therapist for our own relationship. To work on how to make that better and issues which have been there for over the years."
On the work front, Aamir Khan has a busy schedule ahead with his upcoming films, Sitaare Zameen Par and Lahore 1947.
