'Jailer 2', Rajinikanth CONFIRMS 2026 Release Of Nelson Dilipkumar's Sequel, Wraps Up Kerala Filming

South Indian superstar, Rajinikanth is all set to ignite the big screens with Jailer 2, the sequel to his 2023 blockbuster, Jailer. The upcoming film is a high-octane action thriller directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. This movie promises to deliver explosive action sequences, emotional depth, and the signature charm of Rajinikanth. Recently, the actor was spotted at the Chennai airport after completing the Kerala schedule for the movie sequel. Rajinikanth completed Jailer 2's Kerala schedule and returned to Chennai

According to the latest news, the cast and crew of Jailer 2 have completed filming of major action sequences in Kerala. The scenes the actor shot at the location included elaborate sets and high-octane fight scenes. Rajinikanth was spotted shooting at the Palakkad area of the state, where he received warm regards from his fans. He also greeted the fans back in classic 'Rajinikanth style'. He was inside his car, heading to another spot, when he acknowledged the enthusiastic crowd with namaskar and waved at them through the vehicle's sunroof.

The video went viral on social media, with fans hailing his enduring popularity. "The MASSIVE Impromptu crowd gathering for #SuperstarRajinikanth in Kerala. Can't imagine the hype for #Jailer2 over there. I don't think any other star at this age has craze in other states like this. The hype for #Jailer2 is officially building.@sunpictures @Nelsondilpkumar," an X-user wrote. Rajinikanth also filmed in other Kerala locations, including a bungalow in Kozhikode. Kerala is also reported to be the setting of the upcoming film's thrilling climax.

Rajinikanth announced the release date of Jailer 2

As news about Rajinikanth filming Jailer 2 began circulating, fans eagerly awaited updates on its post-production or release date. As the actor returned after wrapping up the Kerala shoot and was seen at the Chennai airport, the media put forth questions regarding the film's release. Rajinikanth, unexpectedly, used the opportunity to unveil the release date. The movie, which went on floors on March 10, 2025, will hit the theatres on June 12, 2026, as revealed by 'Thalaiva'

In Jailer 2, Rajinikanth reprises his role as 'Muthuvel Pandian' aka 'Tiger'. 'Muthuvel' is a mild-mannered, loving man who appears to lead a simple, retired life. However, his character takes a 360-degree turn when his son, a police officer, goes missing while investigating an idol smuggling ring. Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Mirnaa also return to play their first instalment roles. Besides the returning case, new faces will be seen in the upcoming movie. They include SJ Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Anna Rajan. The sequel will also feature high-profile cameo appearances by Shiva Rajkumar and Mohanlal.

Additionally, there will be extended special appearances by Nandamuri Balakrishna and Mithun Chakraborty. The movie Jailer 2 is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, with music by Anirudh Ravichander, both of whom return from the first instalment. The production is helmed by Chennai-based Sun Pictures, which produced blockbusters like Jailer, Raayan, Coolie and Beast.
