Jane Goodland's ground-breaking research on chimpanzees' behaviour uncovered various false human assumptions about the chimps and other animals. Not only this, she also revolutionised primatology and advocated for wildlife protection, forest preservation, and sustainable development throughout her life. She published a series of books for children and adults interested in learning more about environmental science. During her illustrious career as a zoologist, she received tons of awards and honours.

The legendary conservationist will always be remembered for promoting compassion, peace, and empathy for animals. Once in an old interview, Goodall was asked how she would like to be remembered. She gave an answer that went viral all over the internet after her passing. She said:

"I think I'd like to be remembered as someone who helped people to have a little humility and realise that we are part of the animal kingdom not separated by it."

Despite being one of the greatest conservationists and zoologists in human history, Jane Goodall has always preferred to keep her personal life out of the spotlight. She never let her fame and success enter her house, which is why not everyone is aware of her marriage story. For the uninitiated, Jane Goodall was married twice in her life. Her first husband was a Dutch photographer whom she met during her time in Tanzania in 1962.

The Dutch photographer's name was Baron Hugo van Lawick, and he was sent to Tanzania to document Goodall's research on chimpanzees. While working together, they came close and started dating. It was in 1964 that Goodall and Baron got married, and on March 4, 1967, they welcomed their first and only child, a son whom they named Hugo Eric Louis Van Lawick, also known as 'Grub'.

According to several media reports, Goodall and Baron got divorced in 1974, reportedly due to their professional commitments. While she was in Gombe National Park (Tanzania), Baron pursued his film projects in different parts of the world. In the following year, Jane Goodall crossed paths with Derek Bryceson, who was the then-director of Gombe Park.

However, Goodall caught Bryceson's attention for the first time when she went to the parliament to show her film on chimpanzees. After spending several months together, Goodall and Bryceson got married in 1975. Unfortunately, Bryceson died due to cancer in 1980, and she spent the rest of her life as a widow.

Jane Goodall spent her entire life in wildlife conservation and studying chimpanzees; however, her only child, Hugo 'Grub' Eric Louis Van Lawick, found a different calling. Grub was born in Tanzania and spent a significant portion of his early childhood and formative years at Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania. When he was a little kid, Goodall made a protective cage for her son, as she had to spend most of her day in the wild due to work commitments. She once admitted in an interview that she employed a chimpanzee's parenting method, always being in constant physical presence with her son.

After growing up in the wild, Grub went to England for schooling and got the taste of the real world. As he grew up, he chose a completely different path. Neither did he decide to walk in the footsteps of his photographer-father nor his conservationist mother's profession interest him; instead, he decided to become a B.O.A.T., or a builder of oceanic transport. Yes! You read it right. Goodall's son, Grub, works as a boat builder in Tanzania, where he lives with his wife, Maria and their three children, Angel, Merlin, and Nick. Despite being the son of one of the most outstanding zoologists in history, Grub prefers to live a modest life with his family in Tanzania, a place where his mother spent most of her life.
