He stated, "In the middle of filming this elaborate, beautiful musical [Kiss of the Spider Woman], your divorce was also finalised with Ben."

Jennifer was not having it, and she cut Craig off, making playful comments and attempting to change the subject. She exclaimed, "There you go! Look at this guy!" Regardless, Craig completed his remark regarding Ben Affleck, clarifying that he brought up the topic only because he read that Jennifer's ex was an executive producer of the film. He didn't intend to put Jennifer in a spot with his comments; however, it might have made her a little uncomfortable. Craig and Jennifer did not take the situation seriously and laughed about it before acknowledging Ben's contribution in the movie.

In the Today show episode, Jennifer Lopez credited Ben Affleck for using his expertise to make the filmmaking possible as an executive producer. Notably, Ben's production company, Artists Equity, financed the musical, which Lopez called her 'dream project'. She told CBS that after she explained how much she wanted to do the role, Ben helped make it happen, and she was grateful for it. She later echoed the sentiment at the film's premiere, thanking him directly. Hinting that the ex-spouses might have moved on in their lives, Jennifer told Craig Melvin:

"If it wasn't for Ben, the movie wouldn't have gotten made. And I will always give him that credit. And yeah, things happen, you have to keep going."

Ben also publicly praised Jennifer Lopez's performance in Kiss of the Spider Woman, calling it a role she was 'born to play'. He told Extra that she was 'amazing in the movie'. He also commended Jennifer's commitment to the project, noting that she worked 'enormously hard' to give it her all. He highlighted Jennifer's diverse skills, mentioning that she grew up watching classic musicals and that the movie allows audiences to see all her 'many gifts', including her acting, singing, and dancing.
