Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck fell in love in 2002 while working together on the film, Gigli. Soon, they painted the entire Hollywood in the colour of their love, and in the same year, they got engaged. But they didn't end up getting married; rather, they called off their engagement in 2004. They fell in love again nearly two decades later, only to divorce each other this time. In 2022, they got married, but on their second wedding anniversary, Jennifer filed for divorce. The actress talked about her embarrassing divorce for the first time.
Jennifer and Ben's divorce was finalised in January 2025. However, during the ugly divorce battle, they were working together on the sets of the film adaptation of the Broadway musical, Kiss of the Spider Woman. While Jennifer starred in the lead, Affleck served as an executive producer. In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Jennifer talked about the difficult journey.
Jennifer called it really tough and stated that every moment on set was amazing, as it was the best role, but back home, things weren't great. Meanwhile, she continued to procrastinate on figuring out how to make things work. Jennifer was quoted as saying:
"It was a really tough time. Every moment on set, every moment I was doing this role, I was so happy, and then it was like, back home, it was not great. And it was just like, 'How do I work inside of this?'"
When the host questioned her about Affleck working on the film as a producer, Jennifer heaped praise on him, and stated that the movie won't have been made if he wasn't there. She then expressed gratitude towards her ex for allowing her to play the 'role'. She even accepted that playing the role helped her navigate the tumultuous time in her life. She said:
"Yes 100 percent, It was hard not to think about stuff, but it was like the best and the worst of times in a way, because it was every moment on set and every moment I was doing this role. I was so happy and then it was like back home it was not great and it was just like, oh, you know, how do I reconcile this? But you get through it."
Jennifer Lopez further admitted that her divorce was the best thing that ever happened to her. It changed her and helped her grow in a way that she needed to, becoming more self-aware. Reflecting on her divorce, Jennifer shared:

"And you know, honestly, I have to say it was the best thing that ever happened to me because it changed me... it didn't change me - it helped me grow in a way that I needed to grow, become more self-aware. I'm a different person now than I was last year, I think, a year-and-a-half ago."
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were hailed as Hollywood's 'it' couple, and they were together called 'Bennifer'. The duo, who broke off their engagement in 2004, rekindled their love story and got married in Las Vegas in 2022. They even had a second ceremony in Georgia in the same year. What started as a whirlwind of a love story met its end as Jennifer filed for divorce on their second wedding anniversary. As per the court papers, the couple had parted ways in April 2023.
While the ex-couple stated that they divorced due to irreconcilable reasons, Affleck later called the reason for the divorce 'embarrassing' in an interview with GQ. He clarified that no scandal was involved in their separation. They were just trying to figure out their lives as normal people. He added that he doesn't want to share the reason as it makes him feel vulnerable.
