John Abraham And Bipasha Basu Had Split Up Just Before 'Billo Rani' Shoot, Recalls Vivek Agnihotri

John Abraham and Bipasha Basu used to be a beloved couple in Bollywood during the early 2000s. The duo shelled out pure couple goals during the nine years that they dated. Audiences also loved their on-screen chemistry in films like Jism, Aetbaar, Madhoshi, and Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal. However, Bipasha and John later parted ways, ending their golden romance.

Vivek Agnihotri was the director of the 2007 film, Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, starring Bipasha Basu, John Abraham, and Arshad Warsi. Even though the film could not excel at the box office, its item song, Billo Rani was an instant hit and topped the charts soon after it was released. Even today, the song remains a Bollywood favourite.

Recently, recalling the iconic song’s journey, Vivek revealed that nearly everything went wrong during its making. However, legendary choreographer, Saroj Khan stood by him, believing in the song when no one else did. Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Vivek shared a clip of the iconic song along with providing a glimpse behind the scenes of the shoot. Vivek’s post read:

“This song has a history. Producers didn’t want it. Javed Saab was against the hook ‘Billo Rani’, Pritam wasn’t sure about qawwali style. John and Bipasha had a break up just a couple of days before it so there were lots of issues. But only the Late Saroj Khan believed in me. She said this would become the biggest hit and it did. Big salute to Pritam, Javed Saab and Saroj ji.”

John Abraham and Bipasha Basu’s incomplete love story

John and Bipasha used to be one of Bollywood’s most talked-about couples, dating for nearly a decade before calling it quits in 2011. Their relationship reportedly began around the time of Jism (2003), and while fans believed they were destined for marriage, their romance ended on a bitter note. Bipasha later revealed that the breakup was ‘definitely not amicable’, whereas John maintained it was a mutual decision.

Coming to their present lives, the former lovers have happily moved on with their respective partners. John Abraham fell in love with his now-wife, Priya Runchal. John and Priya got married in 2014, and have since kept their personal lives low-key and away from media exposure. Meanwhile, Bipasha Basu found her forever in actor, Karan Singh Grover, and the couple tied the knot in 2016. Bipasha and Karan welcomed their daughter, Devi, in 2022, and the three are now a happy family.

Well, despite the past heartbreak, Billo Rani remains an iconic song, proving that sometimes, even the most iconic performances can emerge from the most unexpected circumstances!
