Veteran Marathi actress, Jyoti Chandekar passed away at the age of 68 after battling health-related issues. Mother of popular actress, Tejaswini Pandit, the departed actress made a name for herself in the hearts of the Marathi-speaking audience with many of her iconic roles. Here's everything to know about the sad demise of Jyoti Chandekar, beloved 'Purna Aaji (grandmother)' of the masses.
Jyoti Chandekar had gone to Pune, Maharashtra and was undergoing treatment there for health issues that have not yet been revealed. However, on August 16, 2025, it was confirmed that the veteran actress passed away at the age of 68. As per a Sakal report, her last rites will be performed at the Vaikunth Crematorium in Pune on August 17, 2025, at 11 am. The exact cause of her death has not been disclosed.
As a passionate actress in love with her craft, Jyoti Chandekar worked till her last breath. She was currently seen in the Marathi serial, Tharal Tar Mag and portrayed the fan-favourite character, 'Purna Aaji'. Last year, during the shooting of the serial, Jyoti Chandekar fell ill due to low sodium levels, reportedly. She took a two-month break for recovery but returned to the set with even more energy and continued working. The Marathi entertainment industry and her fans are both in shock at her untimely demise.
Star Prawah, the channel where Jyoti Chandekar's last serial aired, took to their social media handle and expressed their heartfelt condolences to the departed soul. Many popular Marathi actors and actresses, such as Samruddhi Kelkar, Sameer Paranjape, Surekha Kudachi and more, also expressed their condolences for Jyoti Chandekar.
Tejaswini Pandit is one of the most popular actresses in the Marathi entertainment industry. After appearing in the 2020 web series Samantar opposite Swapnil Joshi, she also received recognition outside the regional cinema. Her mother, Jyoti Chandekar, has also been a widely familiar face of the regional language industry. As per reports, the veteran actress first started working in Hindi films in minor roles. Then she started working on Marathi plays and rose to fame swiftly due to her acting prowess.

Jyoti Chandekar appeared in iconic films like Ticha Umbartha, Dholki, Sukhant, Mee Sindhutai Sakpal, and Shyamchi Aai. The career of the veteran actress spanned nearly five decades, starting when she was 12 years old. The popular mother-daughter duo finally got to act together in the 2015 film, Ticha Umbartha, where Jyoti Chandekar played the role of Tejaswini's mother-in-law on the screen.
