Kajol On Raising Kids In The Digital Age And The Lessons She Learnt From Her Mom, 'I Don't Want..'

Kajol can be described as one of the most successful Bollywood actresses, and she is also the most outspoken and unfiltered person in the industry as well. When it comes to her acting, Kajol has played undeniably magnificent characters and has received numerous accolades. However, Kajol is also a daughter, a mother, and a wife. In an interview with Filmfare in 2018, the actress opened up about all her roles.

Kajol opens up about her mother, Tanuja

Kajol sat for an interview to promote her film Helicopter Eela, where she opened up about numerous topics, including whether she had any complaints against her mother, Tanuja. Responding to the interviewer, Kajol revealed that she didn't have any complaints and that her mother was the coolest mom there could be. She revealed that her mother never complains about her not spending enough time with her.

However, Kajol admitted that she complains a lot about her kids not spending time with her. She revealed that while her son, Yug, was little, she complained about her daughter, Nysa, not spending time with her. She added that her mother taught her to be an individual and take responsibility if she makes a mistake. She stated:

"Everyone makes mistakes. I, too, may have committed them. But if I take responsibility for it, it doesn't remain a mistake anymore. It becomes a learning experience. That's one of the most important lessons that Mom has taught me. I hope I can teach that to my children as well."

Kajol on how she has evolved as a mother

In the same conversation, Kajol revealed that she believes she has evolved a lot and that things get easier with the secondborn as a parent who has gained experience with their first, which makes things calmer. Kajol further stated that she wants her kids to be happy in whatever they do and be good people. She added that she wants them to be able to take responsibility and face whatever life throws at them.

Kajol opens up about the challenges faced by parents in the present time

Kajol revealed that the biggest challenge, according to her, was to check the flow of information to the kids as everything is available online. She cited information like sex, rape or how women are being ill-treated and stressed how as parents, it was their job to simplify complex information comprehensible for their kids. She stated:

"And make sure it's appropriate for their age. I do keep a tab on what my kids are reading and watching. But you can't do much after a point. If you don't allow it at home, they can watch it with friends. But you can surely explain things to them."

Kajol reflects on her relationship with her husband, Ajay Devgn

Kajol had been married to Ajay for almost two decades at the time. She shared that they had become better friends and could share more now compared to when they got married. She revealed that she was proud of Ajay and added that they had both helped each other become the person they were. 

Kajol about her screen presence

In the same conversation, Kajol was asked why she isn't seen on-screen often. To which the actress admitted that she was lazy and didn't want to work for more than a set time period. She also added that she doesn't often come across scripts like Helicopter Eela. She stated:

"Last year, I had VIP. I don't want to work just for the sake of working. Also, I can't work with people I don't like. I don't want to torture myself and work with people I don't like. I won't do it anymore."
