Karwa Chauth is not just any other Indian festival, it is an emotion, which is celebrated across the nation. All year round, married ladies eagerly wait to get ready in solah shringar and observe the nirajala fast. It is a fast, which is also loved by B-town ladies. In fact, every year, Anil Kapoor's wife, Sunita Kapoor, hosts a big Karwa Chauth party, and many famous married actresses join her. While many love celebrating the Karwa Chauth, there are few Bollywood actresses, who don't believe in it. However, they landed in trouble after they made a controversial statement about the same.
For those who don't know, Karwa Chauth is celebrated by married Hindu women, as they keep nirjala fast and pray to God for the long life of their husbands. It is celebrated on the Kartik Chaturthi. They married women start the day by eating sargi in the morning before the sun comes out and open their fast after giving argh to the moon. But as they say, every coin has two sides — many women believe in keeping the fast and many don't, which is okay. However, some Bollywood celebrities landed in trouble for making fun of the fast.

Kareena Kapoor Khan tied the knot with Saif Ali Khan in 2012 in an intimate ceremony. In 2013, Kareena faced a lot of criticism when she straightaway denied keeping fast, and called it a demonstration of true love. She revealed that 'all the women will be starving, but I will be eating. She added that she is a Kapoor and she cannot live without food. She further said:
"Khanna khao, mithai khao, mooh mitha karo yaar.. Pyaar mein bukha kya marna yaar. Mai khane ke bina nahi jee sakti mai Kapoor hoon.. Please."
Sonam Kapoor got married to the love of her life, Anand Ahuja in a grand wedding ceremony in a Gurudwara. In 2022, Sonam had shared her opinion on Karwa Chauth. She revealed that it was her husband, Anand Ahuja, who is no fan of Karwa Chauth and only believes in intermittent fasting. Sharing her views further on Karwa Chauth, she added that she loves being part of it and dressing up. The internet brutally trolled the actress.

Ratna Pathak is the second wife of Naseeruddin Shah, and they have been married for over 41 years. The actress loves expressing her unfiltered views on various issues. However, she landed in trouble after she mocked married women's belief in Karwa Chauth. She had called the fast 'superstitious' and shared that 'it is strange that even educated women observe the Karwa Chauth fast for the long life of their husband.'
Anil Kapoor's daughter, Rhea Kapoor also faced a lot of criticism when she expressed her opinion of not celebrating Karwa Chauth. She tied the knot in an intimate ceremony with her longtime beau, Karan Boolani. She straight away asked the people to not reach out to her for 'Karwa Chauth gifting' as she won't be celebrating it. Rhea added that she and her husband don't believe in it. However, when people called her 'silly'. Rhea retorted and said:
"For now I feel like if we take care of ourselves and each other we should be good. I only write this because it seems random strangers feel the need to aggressively convince me that I'm being ‘silly’, ‘have to do it’, 'it's my first'. No, thank you. let's move on?"
In 2017, Twinkle Khanna became a target of trolls after she took a dig at Karwa Chauth fast. She sarcastically shared that by the age of 40, people are heading for their second marriage, so, there is no point in fasting for the men and to make them live longer. She had written:
"These days by 40 u could be on the way to your 2nd marriage so what’s the point of fasting-don’t need the men to last that long anymore."
While fasting or not fasting is an individual choice, mocking anyone's belief is definitely not nice, especially when you are a public personality. After all, Karwa Chauth is a celebration of mutual respect and love. When a wife fasts, the husband does the work and tries to help her to make the day easier, and it further strengthens their bond.
