K-dramas' stories of love and relationships have always looked like something out of a fairytale. With rose-coloured glasses, they have shown a world of perfect love and couples. Especially, the male leads of the dramas have always been shown as walking green forests, paying attention to every little detail of their love interests.
However, in their real life, there is reportedly a dark side to many of these actors who play the perfect boyfriend or husband in those dramas. Many of these 'walking green forest' heroes have been allegedly embroiled in problematic controversies that showed a stark difference between their reel and real life. These alleged two faces of many actors were revealed after the controversy between Kim Soo Hyun and the late actress, Kim Sae Ron.
Korean actor, Kim Soo Hyun rose to worldwide fame with his role as the main lead of Queen Of Tears. The actor became a fan favourite with his character, 'Beak Hyun Woo', who was shown as the perfect on-screen supportive husband. However, a few months later, an actress known as Kim Sae Rao died by suicide. As the news of her death spread out, a Korean YouTube channel reported that Kim Soo Hyun had started a relationship with the late actress when she was only 15 years old, and he was 27.
Though Kim Soo Hyun and his team had rejected all such claims, Kim Sae Ron had once posted and deleted a photo of them on her social media where the duo looked very cosy together. At that time, the actor's agency had denied these claims and threatened the actress with a lawsuit for defamation. Later, as more photos circulated after the actress' death, the agency accepted the fact that the two had dated, but Kim Sae Ron was 20 years old and Kim Soo Hyun was 31 at the time.
Squid Game actor, Lee Byung Hun is another Korean actor who is famous for his green-flag roles in K-dramas. But in real life, the actor's girlfriend had accused him of making false promises of marriage to get into a physical relationship with him. She had also accused him of being a gambling addict. Lee Byung Hun got into another controversy when he was accused of bringing gangsters to his TV show set.

Known as the Song couple by their fans, Song Joo Ki and Song Hye Kyo's wedding was out of a K-drama fairytale. The couple had worked on the popular series, Descendants Of The Sun, fell in love on the set and got married. But just after two years of marriage, the actor filed for divorce, allegedly when his wife was abroad and had no idea about the situation. The Korean actor, Song also got into controversy when he commented that male actors have it harder in the industry after they get married.
Park Seo-joon, played the perfect boyfriend in the series What's Wrong With Secretary Kim, where his character was smitten and crazy in love with his love interest. However, in reality, the actor got into hot water with his female fans when an old interview of his resurfaced. The actor had said in a 2014 interview that he wanted his wife to leave her job to take care of the children. Making comments on women's figures, Park Seo-joon, also said:
"I find women who bring about my protective instinct attractive. I feel like if they are tall, they are going to be fine living alone. I like women who keep me worried. And skinny women tend to be like that."
Soon after Queen Of Tears, another K-drama actor who received immense love for his portrayal of a supportive and green flag husband was actor Yoo Yeon Seok in the series When The Phone Rings. His character was also well-loved for being very respectful to his partner in the series. However, some comments made by the actor in the past have shown a different side of him. He had commented on one of his co-star's dating life and said that she was single because she dressed 'conservatively'. Yoo Yeon Seok also commented that:
"If a woman wears something translucent, where you can sort of see something whenever they walk? If they wear something like that when they are out with me, I would think they are interested in me. If they are all covered up, it feels like they are putting up a wall, and I think they are not interested in me."
Actress, Kim Sae Ron had gotten into a drinking and driving accident in 2022, where she crashed into a transformer and caused a lot of damage. The actress had to pay a lot of fines for the damages incurred during the crash. Her agency, Gold Medallist, also paid out to businesses affected by her accident. These payments by the agency were levied as debts on the actress.
The twist in this story is that Kim Soo Hyun was the founder of the agency, and he was the one who had put the debt on Kim Sae Ron. As per reports, the actress had let Soo Hyun know about her worsening financial condition and asked him to consider her situation a little bit, considering their personal history. However, the actor had reportedly still asked her to pay the debt. After her death, it was revealed that she owed around Rs.47 lakhs to Kim Soo Hyun.
